Think there is a rat or squirrel in my toilet wall

I don’t know who to call tomorrow - a plumber? Pest control? Do I just leave it and hope it escapes??

My cats have been hanging around the downstairs toilet all day. Couldn’t find anything in there so assumed they were just being weird. But sitting on the toilet earlier I heard it… scratching coming from inside the boxing next to the toilet. There is a bit of boxing behind the toilet, but if the cats brought in a mouse wouldn’t it just come out the hole it went into behind the toilet instead of scratching around? I saw a squirrel on my roof earlier in the year so I assume a squirrel fell down the stack pipe, survived a two storey fall and is now stuck? Is there no way for it to get into the sewer? it could be a rat but I can’t see any visible open holes behind the toilet and my drain is attached to two neighbours so a long way for it to go.

The boxing is painted tile until halfway up the wall so there’s no option to just cut a hole at the bottom and set a trap if it is in the boxing.
I made the mistake of googling it and more than one person has had a squirrel appear in their toilet after flushing! I’ve closed the lid on both toilets but feeling unnerved!! If I don’t hear any scratching in the morning do I assume it’s escaped or will it have died and blocked the pipe? Not usually one to freak out but I’ve convinced myself it’s a mutant sewer rat that will either come up the toilet or chew through the wall

Isn't it more likely to be on the outside of the sewer pipe inside the boxed in area, in which case it should be able to get out the same way it got in. Could be a mouse, they can sound surprisingly loud.......at least though you have the cats guarding it for you and its unlikely to come out with them there (I'd be taking them with me when I needed to use the loo)😻

This was my original thought just because it was loud scratching and I assume something inside the pipe would sound fainter. I didn’t know there were any hole into the boxing but hopefully you’re right and it’s something small the cats have brought in
