Been in my flat for over 10 years now and it needs new furniture. choices are pay for ready assembled furniture and have it delivered or I could buy something like corona pine and save myself a lot of money.

I'm disabled and the thought of building furniture fills me with dread, tried before I was disabled and the coffee table I 'built' fell apart!

There's a guy local to where I live who has a flat pack building company and he sent me a quote the other day. He's currently in hospital so I don't want to bombard him with questions!

Just wondering say for a double bed, a wardrobe, a set of drawers, a computer desk and a bedside cabinet, how long is that likely to take? are they likely to want to get it done in a day or would they come back another day to finish the rest off?

My husband is great at assembling flat pack furniture. Based on him as a tradesman, I would say someone would charge 2 days for that.

I am pretty good at flat pack but definitely not a trades person. I managed 2 large chests of drawers a wardrobe a double bed and a couple of small units in a day, so I would think it is doable in a day, maybe a day and half depending on the size of everything. This was in my own by the way. Had a bit of help with the bed. (Should have asked for help with the wardrobe too but am v stubborn!)

When I bought a bunk bed from M&S they put it together for me so I’d check which shops like them and JL put it together for you

Next and IKEA offer furniture assembly with delivery. Next is £60 average per item such as large chest of drawers.

I just had a guy come and build two triple wardrobes, a 6 drawer chest of drawers and two bedside tables, he charged £350 and it took him from about 9am - 3.30pm ish.

I used a guy like this from TaskRabbit.

was amazing. I reckon it’d take someone a day to do your list

I’ve just had a desk built and fitted to the wall also Task Rabbit £51 London

I had a man from a local company who took less than a day to assemble a large solid wood freestanding pantry, and two sideboards, each with a composite stone top. He was lovely, and cleared up & took all the packaging away with him. Wonderful service. Can't remember how much it cost, sorry.

I found him via a furniture company who used him as their flat pack assembler - |I first used him via them to assembles some solid timber bookcases. He left his card and next time I contacted him direct - half the price!

My chap charges £50 per hour, and gets 2 or 3 small jobs done in that time. He assembled a 4x4 kallax unit and fixed to walk in under an hour.

I used task rabbit (possibly booked through IKEA, I can't remember). It took him just over half a day to do 4 Billy bookcases with glass doors fitted to 3 of them. It felt a little pricey to me compared to my own hourly rate but it would have taken me over a day to do it myself I reckon and I'd have struggled with the weight so still worth it.

Yes, it was great (Taskrabbit). About £50 and pretty quick (some years ago though). But DH got the hump despite having not got round to it for a fortnight (I can just about build a desk or something but this was a complicated double bed). Silly man 😂.
