Getting private blood tests then speaking to GP about results?

I am thinking of ordering some blood tests for myself to check a few things with my health. My issue is that if anything flags up I will then have to go to my GP and tell them my concerns and why and I expect that the GP will annoyed that I have been doing these tests? I understand they will would need to retest me to check themselves. I could go to the GP and ask for the tests directly which would be free for me but even as someone with a long running history of recurrent low iron and anaemia I find it can be a struggle to get the GP to test my iron levels.

I guess I also just get the vibe that many doctors don't much like patients who read up on things too much or go and get private testing then come to them looking for help.

Don’t think that’s a problem. If anything GP should be glad you’ve saved them the hassle, time and cost of testing you.
its totally ok to mix and match private and NHS to speed things up. NHS sometimes use private doctors and hospitals themselves.
Going via NHS just means it’s a joined up system but if you give them the reports they should be able to upload to your records.
you should not be getting hassle for going private as step1.

Doubt they will be annoyed really, they will probably want to redo the tests though

I worried about this with some autoimmune tests, where the results meant I wanted to follow up with GP, but it was fine. GPs have to be professional, and treat each patient fairly

You may get some grumblings from the GP. In medicine it is good practice for the person ordering the test to be the same person who then actions them. If you have specific concern about you health, go and discuss it with you GP and they will order and appropriate panel of tests which they will then be happy to action if abnormal.
By taking your private results to your GP, you are basically putting someone else's work on their desk, either because they couldn't be bothered to finish it, or you couldn't be bothered to pay them to finish it.

Thanks everyone, difficult to know how they will take it, I suppose most will be ok.

@Gloschick I will try then to see if the GP will do the tests, or discuss if I might need my thyroid checked.

@orlamug If you book an appointment specifically for this, and give justifications for your requests, I think most GPs would be agreeable. Don't forget that there are some restrictions eg they can't recheck iron within 3 months, so if they say no, it probably isn't them just being awkward. Good luck - I hope you get the answers you are looking for!
