My feet look like sausages

And all my toes look like sausages, attached to the feet sausages.

Anyone else having a lovely time in this heat?!

This can't be normal can it, I'm 67 and my feet and ankles have never swollen in the heat. They look perfectly normal and it was 30 degrees today

It's possible it can still be normal even if it hasn't happened to you.

Diversion · 20/06/2025 21:32

I once asked the nurse at our GP surgery about fat ankles in the heat, my sisters are worse than mine, she has proper cankles. Apparently it is (another) female thing.

Gatekeeper · 20/06/2025 21:48

Even when I was a skinny minny my ankles were always pudgy in heat. Textbook blood pressure in my 60s and they now look like boiled ham hocks today!

Cheesystick · 20/06/2025 21:52

I lost 11 stone in weight and thought this would stop. IT HASN'T. I drink loads of water, exercise, borderline low blood pressure but nothing to worry about, excellent heart rate, now healthy weight. It's horrible. I hate it. Completely ruins summer for me. The minute it cools they shrink.

I've had all my veins scanned in my legs and my varicose veins are minimal (gp thought that could be the problem, it isn't). The vascular surgeon shrugged and said 'I have the same thing, it's just how we are. You could try compression stockings but you'll be even hotter.'

My sympathies op.

henlake7 · 20/06/2025 22:18

Just another one of those things to hate about summer!
I never had this (even though my legs are 80% varicose veins at this point).
I did used to get sausage fingers in the heat though. Horrible feeling. Thankfully not a problem this year coz I lost 7 and a half stone and exercise tons now.

MrsCarson · 20/06/2025 22:24

It's only happened to me once when I was in Gran Canaria in the summer and I was very dehydrated.
I managed pregnancies through the summer in a hot country but never swelled I was well hydrated and peeing like a racehorse.

Soonenough · 20/06/2025 23:23

Well impressed at these hugh weight loss posted

StJulian2023 · 20/06/2025 23:40

My feet are the same size as usual but they are so HOT, especially at night, that they keep me awake! Feel like they are burning. This only started last summer (I’m mid 40s)

DiamondThrone · 21/06/2025 07:09

Should have said, I'm 59.

Well I woke super early this morning, tossing and turning with the heat. Feet are back to normal, and I'm taking the dog out now it's cool out, but I expect sausage service to resume later on!

I'm 50 and nothing has ever swollen in the heat, even when I was pregnant. How can humans be designed so differently 🤯.

cheesycheesy · 21/06/2025 07:21

I’d be concerned about water retention like that

Yes that's probably what it is, thankfully it only happens in the heat.

Actually my toes do look a bit chipolata like today but I was walking in the heat for a few hours.

MrsH497 · 21/06/2025 15:09

Mine are swollen. Trying to drink water, I can’t raise them too far as I had hip surgery and struggle enormously with hip pain. I’m only 38 so hope it’s nothing more than hot weather!

I've just had hip surgery too for a congenital hip problem. No fun at all is it?

No it really isn’t. What did you have done? I’ve got hip dysplasia and it’s miserable

I'm similar, my feet look perfectly normal but they feel hot and swollen! They don't sweat much, if at all, so that's probably why they don't cool down. At least they aren't swollen!

Judiezones · 21/06/2025 16:23

Growsomeballswoman · 20/06/2025 20:02

Certain BP medication can also make the swelling much worse

Do you mean calcium channel blockers like amlodipone, felodipine? The newer one, Lercanidipine, is worth trying as it causes less swelling.

MoonlightMemories · 21/06/2025 18:11

Not my feet but my face has been a bit puffy the past couple of days. I do have to up my salt intake in hot weather as it's prone to making my blood pressure lower, so maybe it's just causing a bit of fluid retention? It's gotten better as we're getting towards the end of the day though.

MissionToSize10 · 21/06/2025 18:47

Usually mine do this, this year they havent. Im currently losing weight via WLI

TheChosenTwo · 21/06/2025 18:56

This happened to me in the heat when pregnant with dc3, my feet were like
someome else mentioned, dough rising!
I used to soak my feet in cool water and sit with my legs elevated. Didn’t really seem to do much if I’m honest.
It’s not happened since then but I’ll never forget it. It was when those stupid ballet flats were the height of fashion which only seemed to draw more attention to my foot splurge 😂 even one of the mums at the school gate commented once, “god your feet are bloody massive aren’t they?!” - I wouldn’t have minded as much if I actually knew her and we were friends!
