Suncream for my wedding day

CauliflowerCheese00 · 19/06/2025 19:11

Wondering if anyone can recommend a suncream to wear on my wedding day - long lasting, well absorbing, not greasy/smeary, not going to turn my dress a yellow colour…?

To be perfectly honest OP I’d rather risk getting a bit burnt for the day than having yellow stains all over my dress. For a one time affair I wouldn’t be stressing over sunscreen

IReallyLoveItHere · 19/06/2025 19:51

Agree with PP. Your make up will also contain sunscreen.

If you must I find watery essence the best.

La Roche Posay Anthelios do a spf 50 mist which might be an idea?

The la Roche posay 50 mist has completely ruined my favorite white t shirt and all the Internet tips to get it out have made exactly zero difference so not that unfortunately

FiletMignon · 19/06/2025 21:10

Bondi Sands face mist dries down clear and doesn’t stain white clothing (in my experience at least, but don’t take my word as gospel)

But I agree with PP that if it were me I’d forgo sunscreen for the day. I wouldn’t risk ruining my wedding dress or makeup

Be careful as SPF doesn't play nicely with flash photography, maybe not so much an issue for photos in natural light but may cause issues for indoor or late evening photography.

Elephantsarenottheonlyfruit · 19/06/2025 21:16

Get a white umbrella as a sun shade!

ViaRia01 · 19/06/2025 21:39

I like Reimann P20. Comes in different SPF but I use spf50. It protects your skin for up to 10 hours (and I assume you won’t be swimming or sweating loads to make it wear off more quickly) so it would be good for a day when you don’t want to have to keep reapplying.

I use a liquid spray one and it absorbs well. I would apply liberally early on, at least an hour before you get dressed. Stay in underwear to let it fully absorb and then get dressed. That’s not because the product generally jeeds that much time to absorb, it’s just to be absolutely sure it won’t smudge onto your dress.

WonderingWanda · 19/06/2025 21:40

Ultrasun

If you're like me and forgoing suncream is not an option (unless your partner wishes to look like they married Sebastian from the little mermaid bu the end of the day!) then I would say Reimann P20 is a good choice, its the only one DC can use without coming out in a rash and they are the only one who's white t-shirts survive summer 😂

This posters advice is spot on

CauliflowerCheese00 · 19/06/2025 21:58

Thanks all - foregoing isn’t off the table 🙈
Going to buy some Reimann now and wear with multiple white outfits over the next few weeks to see how it goes - definitely don’t want to go in blind on the wedding day for its first use!

will you be out in the sun much between 11 and 4? I’d skip if if not

chickenfordinner · 19/06/2025 22:20

The Sol de janeiro Rio radiance oil absorbs really nicely and I can’t tell I’m wearing it - haven’t trialled it with clothes yet but might be worth a look?

indoorplantqueen · 19/06/2025 22:41

Over make up mist which I use got my shoulders. There’s several brands on the market, and can be got in boots.

Aparecium · 19/06/2025 22:48

Whatever sunscreen you use, and however unmarked your clothing appears to be, treat it generously with oxygen bleach stain remover (eg Vanish spray) before washing it. Many sunscreens do not appear to stain, but laundering brings up the stain. So always, always, always, treat collars, necklines, cuffs etc immediately before laundering. Once the stain has come up, IME nothing shifts it. Strong sunlight can bleach it out. You can only use this technique on whites, obviously, and it rarely gets sunny enough in the UK.

But will you be laundering or dry cleaning your wedding dress?

AnonMJ · 19/06/2025 23:50

Ultrasun

superior to the oft mentioned P20.

ultrasun. Is awesome. I have it on subscription from Amazon. Never had a problem with staining clothes with ultrasun.

Frrrout · 19/06/2025 23:56

100% get the protect and perfect boots no7 factor 50. Goes on like a dream under makeup, not greasy or shiny, and no yellow stains. I literally have had skin cancers cut out as I can’t stand the feel of sunscreen, and this is like a moisturiser. Game changer, because it nearly has a priming effect. I’d use it on my face and body if need be for the day but avoid any areas that contact the dress. I hate to say it, but it ain’t worth a grubby wedding dress if you’re going to use it on your body.

Face though - definitely a good option.

If it’s not raining, yes we plan to be outside 1-4 - but there is some tree cover etc

I would recommend malibu clear spray. It's not a cream and doesn't leave you greasy, but do wash hands with soap after applying. Apply early too, so that whatever you use has soaked in more.

Hawaiian tropic also do a spf 30 powder that you might want to look into to if it matches your skin colour. Wouldn't work all over your body, as it would brush off, but might be good for face and neck.

Do you have to apply moisturiser after the Protect & Perfect?

I have used ultrasun for years and love it. Unfortunately it has just failed Which? safety testing and is now in the 'do not buy' category. It's a shame as its the only one my skin doesn't react to.

megatwat · 20/06/2025 10:18

I really would not bother if its in the UK, I never wear here it at home its not needed, I have a vit D deficiency as it is

longapple · 20/06/2025 10:20

washing up liquid removes the yellow stain I find, I get the affected bit wet and put a good squirt then work it in, then leave it soaking in cold water for half an hour or so in a bucket then wash as normal (not suggesting that on a wedding dress but I use it on school uniform!)

I find the clear spray on ones turn things yellow less than the cream, and letting it dry before getting dressed.

GoldDuster · 20/06/2025 10:28

I'd stay in the shade.

@Arramintano, I apply it before. I use Elemis moisturiser and they work fine together.
