Favourite childhood books

We've just finished reading the Magical Faraway Tree books by Enid Blyton with my four year old, and he absolutely loved them. They were my favourites as a child too, it's been a treat to revisit them with him.

Any recs for favourite childhood books we can try? A lot of what I remember loving as a child are a bit old for him, the Magical Faraway Tree was really pitched at the perfect level.

Try the Wishing Chair and The Wishing Chair Again by Enid Blyton. Very like the Faraway Tree.

At that age I loved anything by Shirley Hughes, also the original Paddington series by Michael Bond. Oh and another Enid Blyton series called The Wishing Chair.

I loved the Narnia books, and also a series about a magical cat world called Carbonel.

Sorry realised age 4. Have you got the Busy Busy World Books by Richard Scarry? Maybe the Mr Men books. Winnie the Pooh is wonderful ❤️

I liked the Teddy Robinson books when I was about five or six. I don't know if they're still in print.

My kids loved Mr Men and Litttle Miss books. Agree with The Wishing Chair books too.

Thank you, lovely suggestions! Can't believe I didn't think of the original Paddingtons, they'll be perfect.

Checking out all these titles, thank you!

Shirley Hughes' Alfie books.
Allan Ahlberg Mr Creep the Crook etc, think the series was Happy families.
Clever Polly and the Stupid wolf - my son loved these. I'd forgotten how good they were. I think he was around 5/6 when we read them though so might be a bit old.

Fatty puffs and Thinnifers, would imagine its banned now.
The Wolves of Willoughby Chase

Urgh… though i loved Enid blyton books as a child I absolutely HATED reading them out loud as a mum! They're drivel tbh.. embarrassing.

My naughty little sister series, Mrs Pepperpot, Frog and Toad, Percy the Parkkeeper… these were all good and well written reads. Dick King Smith for his amazing animal books too. Or I also enjoyed Toms Midnight Garden, the Lion the witch and the wardrobe (didn’t much like the others!), Goodnight Mr Tom…

My favourite books as a young child were the Wonderful Isle of Ulla Gapoo by F. Dubrez Fawcett, and the Sam Pig books by Alison Uttley. The first book is quite hard to find now, but is worth it. It’s a really magical little book (as are the Sam Pig books) and was originally bought for my brother. It was his favourite book, then mine, and more recently my daughter’s favourite.
