Ideas for a solo day out in London

I've got an upcoming day in London to spend entirely on my own. It's been ages since I've spent any free time in London (usually I'm there for a meeting or some where very specific and then head home straight after).

Can anyone suggest a few nice things I can do on my own? Preferably not too expensive.

The weather is looking like it'll be hot like it is today.

On my list so far:

  • Tate Britain
  • V&A museum
  • Browse Liberty's
  • Browse Fortnum & Mason and then wander down to Green Park
  • Last min tickets to a matinee show (doesn't look like much is on)
  • Borough Market

I don't mind taking the tube to a few different areas, but would rather not be shoulder to shoulder at really touristy spots for the whole day. I'd really like a relaxing day on my own, so sitting in a cute little coffee shop or lunch spot and reading a book would be good too. I'm just not sure where.

My Master Builder at the Wyndham is on till 12th July (I think). Stars Ewan McGregor - I went yesterday and fulfilled a childhood dream by getting a seat on a box. Only cost £25 - there were plenty of seats left too.

Borough Market is hell imo. I'd stay well away.

Agree with this. It's a disappointing touristy mess of a place.

Visit the newly revamped National Portrait Gallery, then go to the National Gallery for lunch. Push the boat out at Giorgio Locatelli's new restaurant there, or try his more casual snack bar.
Have lunch over looking the river, and see a matinee at the National Theatre.

Get the Uber boat from Westminster to Greenwich. Get to see loads of sights and it lasts a decent time. Then Greenwich is a really lovely place to potter around in, there's the market, some nice cafes, you can walk up the hill to the Observatory for great views over London and the architecture at the Royal Naval college is beautiful, is a really nice little half day trip up that way

Ooh I did a day like this last week.

Spent 2 hours at the National Portrait Gallery, had a wander up Carnaby Street to look at some dress shops we don't get oop north, then over to the Barbican to see the Fiddler on the Roof matinee.

Was great but would advise to take some chub rub if you're walking in the heat!
