Why is everyone losing their mind about 28 degrees?

All I have seen online today are calls for schools to shut, activities to be called off, and some sort of national emergency to be declared over a few hot days.

3 years ago we got to 40 degrees where I am, and nothing closed. What’s the madness about this time?

I agree that schools should not be mithering on about blazers, and water should be available, and sports day in full sun is probably foolish. But really, closing?

I love 28 degrees. Over 30 it's going to be uncomfortable in London - it will be 33C today.

Doesn't last long though and will be back to normal summer temperatures after the weekend.

I say every year though that all schools need to finish in June as summer is now not August. August can be rather autumnal.

Some schools seem to have very little common sense when it comes to children's wellbeing.

Secondary schools in Ireland close end of May except for exam years, years 3 and 6 who are usually finished exams about this time.
