Dental treatment …

Not sure if I’m being unreasonable or not so happy to be told. I’ve just paid nearly £800 for a new crown. I was fitted for the mould last week and went for the fitting this morning. The dentist thought the technician hadn’t made it exactly to fit so I have a temporary in again until it’s remade and fitted knows when.

The only thing is the exact same thing happened a few years ago when I had 2 replaced at well over £1000. It’s the inconvenience of making more appointments and fitting them around work etc. It doesn’t seem very professional yet I’m paying a very professional price!

Is this acceptable and can happen easily or is it time to find another practice?

The issue will be the lab, not your dental
practice. I had an issue where the lab made the wrong tooth denture twice!! Luckily my dentist noticed before he extracted the existing tooth it was due to replace!!

It can happen and totally independent from the skill or work of the dentist. Labs can be very variable.

Thank you for your replies… I pay on a plan there and really can’t be bothered to change!

Which would you rather …..

a dentist who is meticulous in checking fit and form of a crown when a fraction of a millimetre difference is critical and despite the fact they will lose money by sending laboratory work back and reappointing you does so anyway

or a dentist who bodged the work in even if it’s not exactly perfect?

There are many ways lab work can go wrong ie hot weather can cause impressions to distort , impressions can drag etc every bit of lab work will be hand made and hand finished . However dental work is so precise , intricate and demanding that even a tiny fault may well mean it is not useable.
