How likely is this going to be tonsillitis instead of covid

I have someone in work with a killer sore throat. Apparantly it's tonsillitis and she has antibs.

But I know civid has razor blades cutting feeling sore throat.

I am anxious that this is going to be covid and not tonsillitis like what is claimed.

How could you or we possibly know? Is this a personal fear of Covid?

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/06/2025 13:17

No one can tell you what it could be.

If your colleague has been prescribed antibiotics then her throat should have been examined or at least a photo taken and sent over to the Gp. Antibiotics will only be prescribed if there are the characteristic white spots of pus on the tonsils indicating a bacterial infection. Covid is a viral infection so it is unlikely your colleague has covid but none of us could 100% know.

If this person has been to the GP and told it's tonsillitis, then it's likely to be tonsillitis. I'm not saying GPs never make a mistake, but they will have looked at the symptoms and made a diagnosis based on the evidence.

Calm down, Covid isn’t the plague.

If she is on antibiotics highly likely

plus Covid is everywhere
