Boring I know but I need a new washing machine which would you recommend? Or stay away from? Needs to be able to handle towel wash’s without leaking and a have a quick wash option! This last one was rubbish from the start so don’t want to get another bad one. Thanks in advance x

I'm happy with my John Lewis brand one that I have had for 5 years, I doubt they have the same one now but for most washes on it you can choose how long you want and I can also open the door during a cycle if I forget anything, it was about £400-£450.

Ruggerlass · 17/06/2025 12:29

I have a Samsung. Lots of wash options you can set manually

ScholesPanda · 17/06/2025 12:30

I have a Hotpoint which I bought about ten years ago and it's still going strong. I've been happy with it.
Personally, I've come to the conclusion that unless you go for top-end Miele quality a lot of the lower to mid range brands are quite similar in reality.

I’m on my Second Samsung eco bubble , would deffo buy a third !

Purplegiraffe345 · 17/06/2025 13:25

Unpopular opinion but whatever you do please don’t buy a Bosch!

We had a Zanussi before which was great but this machine is awful!

They’ve put unnecessary fancy features on it like a button that detects heat or motion or something that doesn’t actually work so its hard to actually start the machine up.

Plus I have ripped, crispy towels! The machine simply doesn’t get the soap out and pulls at threads on towels and clothes!

Avoid!

I’ve had a John Lewis washer dryer for 2 months now and it’s incredible! The wash and dry function takes hours but I just put it on overnight. Dirty clothes go in, clean, dry clothes come out.

Every fire brigade in the UK strongly urges users not to do that due to the risk of fire caused by a heating element.

I survived a house fire twenty years ago and it was just about the most awful, damaging, misery-making experience of my life!

We have bosch - wouldn't recommend it.

Stellaris22 · 17/06/2025 13:33

I have a Miele and love it. It has an Add Wash function for forgotten socks etc after the cycle has started. The best bit is Auto Dosing, I put on a couple of containers then don’t have to bother adding powder etc. It has a sensor to tell you when they need replacing.

FancyCatSlave · 17/06/2025 13:35

Zanussi washer dryer and it’s very good. Very flexible programming, you can reduce the length of most programmes to suit.

I’ll buy it again (moving so distinct possibility).

GasPanic · 17/06/2025 13:36

Zanussi. I like it. A fast spin is useful to get the clothes as dry as possible and reduce the amount of energy needed to dry.

I wouldn't use it or a tumble drier (don't have one) while I was asleep or out. It's just common sense. These things consume a lot of energy and thus have high rated fuses and the ability to start major fires. They also are under a lot of mechnical stress as they spin, vibrate and rattle themselves about. Which means the chance of a failure is high.

I have an LG, first time I've had this brand and I like it. It has a 10kg capacity, which is great.

JadeSeahorse · 17/06/2025 13:41

I bought a Hoover 1600rpm spin with loads of programmes and initially loved it. However, what I found is that the slightest thing accidentally left in a pocket would break the drum paddles. 😥(Stuff like small coin which would normally go through to the filter.). I had to have 4 paddles replaced and then another two went - God Knows what upset them - and so I decided to get rid even though I had only had it 2 years 6 months. ☹️

Replaced it with an AEG which is like the difference between night and day. Really sturdy, lots of programmes including several short washes and a time saver function on longer programmes. The 1400rpm spin is virtually the same as the 1600 with Hoover. Could highly recommend!

I have a Samsung eco bubble and do not rate it. Got a million settings when just a couple are needed. The auto fill dispenser is constantly constantly mouldy, the lid then cracked mean more water better in that supposed to so used copious amounts of liquid and can't now use that feature anyway. Wouldn't buy again.
Oh and it lies about how many minutes left on the cycle. So much so we call them Samsung minutes in our house.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 17/06/2025 13:46

Zanussi lindo 10kg. Was just bought as a cheap replacement for an expensive AEG machine that I utterly hated but has been absolutely brilliant.

LG sorry. It was an LG large drum machine that was absolutely awful and constantly broke down. Could never get anyone other than LG engineers out to it as no one else would touch it.

Bathroomfloor · 17/06/2025 13:55

We recently got a Siemens and I’m really happy with it. The 1 hour wash is so good it’s our usual setting for clothes that aren’t particularly dirty. You can add items in after the wash has started, it’s quiet, it has a big capacity.

We went to an independent retailer who helped us choose. His main advice was to go for one with a five year guarantee rather than a two year guarantee because those manufacturers giving a five year guarantee clearly have more faith in themselves than those with a two year!

Fransgran · 17/06/2025 14:02

My Siemens washing machine is fourteen years old and has never given any trouble. Ditto my Siemens condenser dryer.

Hankunamatata · 17/06/2025 14:03

LG as its a 10kg drum and had 5 year warranty included. Its 4 years old and no issues so far. I try to go for machines that include a longish warrenty as mjne

shellyleppard · 17/06/2025 14:05

I have a beko 1400 rpm. Its absolutely brilliant. Intelligent program so it adjusts the spin speed. Its not ruined any towels yet 😁

shellyleppard · 17/06/2025 14:06

Had a Hotpoint washer dryer before but the dryer kept turning on at random times so it went to the big scrapyard in the sky 🤣

Same here. I had a similar beko before for 12 years

Needspaceforlego · 17/06/2025 14:10

AEG 14yo and still going strong.
Not sure if they still do but they made the John Lewis machines at one point.

Same here (but without the auto dosing). Got it last year after our previous Miele finally died after almost 25 years, and have been very happy with it. Apparently there were some reports a few years ago about the lower end models not lasting as long, but apparently that’s now been rectified. Our local repair centre still recommended Miele over all other brands.
