How to look more chic/polished

I'm short and fat. Most of the time I look quite scruffy and I go for comfort above looks.

How the heck do I start to look more chic/polished/tidy as a short fatty?

I don't recommend John Lewis personal shoppers, it really didn't work for me.
Don't wear black, it's like you're in mourning or trying to disappear. Try to find a good, strong vibrant colour that suits you. Iron your clothes and have your hair cut regularly. Keep your nails short, clean and buffed and have regular appointments with the dental hygienist.
Well done on the weight loss!

I've only recently realised the advantages of 'styling' what I put on rather than just wearing it. I follow lots of old middle-aged, big-bellied cuddly stylists on Instagram and have upped my appearance with the right accessories as it shows I've made an effort which is what looking polished/groomed is all about. I try and make the best of what I've got - skin, hair, clothes that suit me, discreet jewellery and the odd belt or scarf. I'm nearly 73 with only one boob and a chemo belly and it can be a challenge, so, looking clean and well presented really. Oh, and I find dyeing my eyelashes a game changer.

I've put on a lot of weight on recent years, and no amount of money or resources will make me look polished or chic. I've very much come to the conclusion that body shape is a big factor in this. Well done on your weight loss!

Nooooo, I disagree with this. In my experience, now at the largest I've ever been (5ft 7 and 20 stone), I'm also the most confident I've ever been as I now dress more femininely than ever. Cinched in waist is the holy grail for my apple body shape. (Also no high necks) I do my hair and makeup (nearly) every day, gel nails, fun accessories, and I'm getting tons of compliments. So please don't feel like you can't do the same, because of your weight. I'm trying to lose weight, like feckin always, but I feel pretty right now ❤️

You've inspired me @Luggagerackistopheavy
I'm away for a few days and I've had the time to have an express manicure which looks & feels great. I've also painted my toe nails & trimmed/dyed my eyebrows. It's all small, quick tasks but they've made a difference.

Brilliant! I've not done tons yet but I'm being a bit more careful to not wear too many colours, I've bought new jewellery and make up.

if you ever think about splurging on make up, then a lot of beauty counters (I like bobbi brown) offer a make up lesson , the price of which is redeemable on product.

I used to find YouTubers with the same age skin tone as me and use whatever make up I had to do a tutorial before I went out.

look out for ‘no make up make up’ type as less is definitely more.

Scent! Have fun finding one you like, wear daily. Creed is pricy but so ffrrreesssssh it’s instant style.

Please don’t wear leggings.
