Have you ever accidentally tripped over your child before?

The other day I accidentally tripped over my daughter. She’s in this phase where I guess she likes to Cut directly in front of me. I mean literally directly in front of me, then stop to ask me a question and of course I am so tall that she can easily go unnoticed. Not because I am trying to be mean or anything, but because well… The pier size difference. I am a whole lot bigger than her. Anyways… I’m sure you can guess what happens next. I just kept on going while she was laid on the floor crying now obviously I stopped and I picked her up to make sure she was OK. And she was not hurt at all she was just crying because I mean I can only imagine what that would feel like at her height and weight relative to mine. Heck, I would absolutely be in tears myself.

anyways I feel absolutely horrible every time I do this. And I understand that accidents to happen I just feel like she would learn after it has happened a couple of times. I am just trying to imagine it from her perspective, I am twice her height and easily three or four times her weight, and when I walk I have momentum. I hope she doesn’t hate me. I love my daughter, and he is a complete accident, and I feel like a horrible parent for doing this.

Is this just a mean thing, or have any of your accidentally ever done something like this?

I tripped over my colleague's child once. Who is now my boss. Do I win?
Social situation, child was about 4, I was talking to the mum...

Bruisername · 15/06/2025 20:33

The child’s now your boss?

Guessing they are not now a child!

Bruisername · 15/06/2025 22:17

That’s quite a villain story

My dd came home from reception to say her teacher had accidentally stood on head when they were playing sleeping lions. It happens, I wouldn’t worry about it. Just remind child that they need to be aware you don’t always see them coming.

I don’t have kids but I almost fell over the dog today. She ran in from the garden and right into me.

The colleague is now my boss

Yes in the garden, he had only been walking a couple of months and I fell on him and he injured his leg, still limping the next day we took him to children’s A&E, small hairline fracture. Leg in plaster because though in an adult just putting a bit of pressure on would have been enough you couldn’t tell a baby not to do it. I remember all his nursery nurses signing his cast.

To some extent it’s for her to learn but to some extent it’s for you to learn. You could preempt this happening and avoid falling over her, then talk about it.

Not recently but I sent the cat flying as she’d snuck up in front of my foot yesterday as I was getting something in the kitchen and I had no idea she was there. I apologised profusely but she’s still cross with me.

haha I trip over my dogs and yell at them for making me scared, tripping, almost dying, almost killing them, almost smashing my teeth if I had to break my fall etc.

Also, when my kid was a toddler, the same treatment was applied.

DON'T STEP IN FRONT OF MUMMY - WE WILL BOTH BE KILLED

Ok, mummy!

I never had feelings of guilt about these things. Different generation, I guess.

Silverbirchleaf · 06/09/2025 05:44

Yes, and the dog. Whose idea was it to get a black dog when we have a black kitchen floor?!

User37482 · 06/09/2025 06:57

Yes, she liked to stand behind me quietly or run right infront of me. She also seems to step on my feet every single day.

Your (over) reaction is not a normal reaction to this situation. Of course people trip up over kids, animals, objects etc all of the time. Please seek help with your anxiety.

Gordon1958 · 06/09/2025 07:42

Velcro her to the wall then you won't trip over her!
