If I put the vacuum on the bottom of my foot can it draw the splinter out

I wouldn't as hoover nozzle will be minging.
Have you got someone who could tease it out with a needle or tweezers.

ninjahamster · 14/06/2025 21:23

I do t think that would work. I would sterilise a needle and gently ease it out.

Spies · 14/06/2025 21:25

No that sounds like a rather strange idea. Instead I would soak your foot in warm soapy water to draw it to the surface and then use tweezers or a Calpol syringe if you have one to hand.

No I don’t think so. Can you try with tweezers? Or get some magnesium sulphate paste tomorrow and use that to draw it out.

GlassBellJar · 14/06/2025 21:48

You can try a calpol syringe, depending on the angle the splinter went in. They work well for suction and I’ve had success with DC splinters before now

I don’t know what it is it’s below the skin

Are you sure there’s something in there? It could be a verucca.

Charliebear322 · 14/06/2025 22:11

Yeah it hurts

Verrucas are also painful to stand on.

ninjahamster · 14/06/2025 22:16

Hmm not sure that’s a splinter. I’d have a poke about with a sterilised needle but that’s probably not advisable!

Years ago my DH got a black thorn in his thigh it broke off while he was working at removing the bush with the horrible needle like thorns.
He spent a lot of time at the outpatients and at a specialist and they all tried to get the thorn out and nothing worked.
One day I suggested as he was taking a bath to put some Epsom salts in and you know what, within 5 minutes the Epsom salts had drawn that piece of thorn out and he was able to pull it out himself.
Worth a try OP, non-invasive and hopefully it will work for you too.

baffledpuzzledandconfused · 14/06/2025 23:25

I got one out this week using a calpol syringe

MeganM3 · 14/06/2025 23:29

Epsom salts contain magnesium. If you can get a magnesium paste use that but it’s hard to find. Create a paste with Epsom salts as an alternative,
keep it on the splinter for a while and it might draw it out - at least a bit closer to the outer skin so you can grab it out with tweezers.

Id think the hoover would be very dirty and possibly a bad idea but sort of curious to know if it works. Update us please

At this point I have tried every method apart from a drawing out cream, baking soda, or the vacuum
