New vacuum

We need a new one. We had various over the years. I do like an upright more than a cylinder pull along. But I am interested in cordless as they look so handy. I want something that works on hard floors and carpet and isn’t too heavy. I don’t want one that need charging after 20 mins. It needs to be under £300. Don’t want to give Dyson any money, had a Shark when they first came out and wouldn’t get another, don’t want another Sebo as ours only lasted 5 years and was very heavy. Don’t want another Miele C2 or a Henry pull along. Currently trialling a Miele Triflex cordless under their 100 day trial period and it is good but I think we’ll be sending it back as the charge doesn’t last long enough at all and we only have a small house.

Any recommendations?

I'm considering the Bosch Unlimited 9 Cordless, it has a ten year warranty.

If your budget is over £200 Get a robot vacuum then it doesn't matter what itv weighs.
You'll still end up with the eternal "how to hoover the stairs" problem but can buy something small that makes that easy.

You will never go back.

I’d recommend a Vax blade. I do about 90 sq metres of hard floor and carpet on a single charge.

I have a spare battery too, but have not yet needed to swap mid clean.

My Henry is living a peaceful retirement under the stairs.

is your dog also afraid of the upright though? @borderlaise

This has excellent reviews and will mop your floors too for £299

UnwantedOpinionBelow · 14/06/2025 15:28

Robot vacuum no doubt, I would recommend an Eufy one.

My best purchase for the home thus far!

No she’s ok with an upright but she doesn’t like nozzles or the handheld mini vac we have. Or anything that moves on its own like an electric toy car, she barks and tries to bite it 😆

Disrecommendation on the Vax Blade, I've had three in the family and they're all been absolutely pathetic at sucking. Not even good on hard flooring.

Might want to check out the current Sharks, they've likely improved a bunch since you didn't like the first one since that must be a decade or so ago.

I actually use a pair of dysons (handheld and cylinder) but also wouldn't buy again because he's a twat.

I have had Shark and Dyson cordless for the last 10 years, and no wired vacuum within that time. I wouldn’t have shark if you gave me one for free, nothing but trouble. I like the Dyson as they’re lightweight and versatile and I think more powerful than the Shark. The Shark is on par with a Land Rover in my opinion, every time you switch the dam thing on there’s some warning light or other on, or bit that needs unclogging. The Dyson is slightly more expensive. The only drawback is I find when used as a main hoover it has a max lifespan of 3-4 years and within that time expect to replace the battery and one or two other parts. So my advice is buy a Dyson from Argos, alongside this buy a 4 year warranty that covers accidental damage and breakdown, think it cost £60. If they can’t repair it or if the same part fails twice they replace it with a new one. So at least I know I have nothing else to pay for 4 years. Can’t comment on the other brands but I have heard Bosch is quite good too.

Ive got a Henry Quick too and love it! So much better and half the price of the dyson it replaced

WhereAreWeNow · 14/06/2025 16:54

I love my Shark upright. I've got a little handheld cordless Shark which is useless but the upright one is brilliant. Really powerful and you can sort of take it apart to make a handheld vacuum for stairs etc. Hard to explain but it works!

borderlaise · 14/06/2025 20:00

Do any of the cordless have a docking station? That would be really handy.

The Bosch is looking interesting

Dyson definitely have a wall charging dock bracket although I’ve never used it.

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 14/06/2025 21:35

Definitely don't get a Samsung. We had a cordless one, completely rubbish.

borderlaise · 14/06/2025 21:40

Just come across the Halo Capsule vacuum. Anyone got one?

Lelivre · 15/06/2025 12:46

I have 5. The newer shark cordless has pleasantly surprised me. The 5 year warranty takes a beating. A roomba is life changing and a power brush upright vac is essential if you have carpet.

abracadabra1980 · 15/06/2025 12:55

@Lelivre - 5 of the ones mentioned in post above? I've never heard of them.
