Splinter in foot

Charliebear322 · 14/06/2025 11:31

It hurts to touch the area at all or walk on the foot. It hurts to bend the foot where the splinter is. It’s too deep to pull out and is now below the skin, a layer of skin has grown over it

Pop to minor injuries, or a podiatrist

omgitchiness · 14/06/2025 11:48

Wait it out at minor injuries or similar. They will remove safely.

it might actually be a small stone. I want to remove it myself it’s just below the skin

I'm not medically qualified and do not accept any responsibility for any actions you take, but here is what I would do if it was my foot.

Wash and dry the foot. Wash a thin needle, dry it and wipe with sanitizer.
Make a thin graze with the needle where the splinter is. Repeat until you can ease all of the splinter out. Wipe the area carefully with sanitizer.

Check you are up-to-date with your tetanus jabs.
If you do not get it seen to,it could result in sepsis.

Oh don’t tell me that. I am sick with worry about it as it is

Put a big plaster on it
Ideally the fabric plasters or ones with added silver
It should draw the splinter closer to the surface of the skin & make it easier to remove the splinter
Leave plaster on for a couple of days

RepairCafeMensShed · 14/06/2025 12:40

You can also buy bluster plasters that are oval in shape with padding

Try those too

Scampuss · 14/06/2025 12:42

I've had success with using blister plasters to draw out hidden splinters. You need to be patient and leave the plaster on until the splinter is visible through the plaster, then you can remove it.

Ficklebricks · 14/06/2025 12:42

You will need to get your tetanus updated if it's been a while so I wouldn't deal with this at home. Just go to minor injuries, it's usually not very busy compared to A&E. The last time I went the wait was about 1 hour compared to 14 hours at A&E!

MikeRafone · 14/06/2025 12:44

Go to a podiatrist as they can either extract the splinter or use cream to draw out the splinter - they will have experience of doing this

there is a particular cream that will draw this foreign body out and is used in these type of situations

a chiropodist might also have similar experience but I’d pay the money and see a podiatrist to get sorted swiftly

saves farthing about with a&e

MikeRafone · 14/06/2025 12:45

Magnesium sulphate is the cream

Magnesium sulphate is the cream

Does it work if the skin has grown over it

@Charliebear322 ,I'm not trying to scare you. It can happen.
Go to a walk-in (the irony) clinic and get it seen to.
I have removed splinters and thorns from my hands and feet dozens of times, and removed a few from other people's hands and feet.
