Do random questions ever come up in your head?

Was sitting drinking coffee this morning when I suddenly wondered were the Pyramids around in Moses time ( yes they were I googled).

Do you every just think of the oddest things?

I can't think of any specific examples just now, but definitely yes!
It's oddly reassuring when you Google something completely random and the autofill text suggestions show you that other people have Googled it too.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/06/2025 13:43

All the time including during my lessons. Of course, I have NEVER briefly paused in one of my sixth form lessons to discuss when pockets were invented.

MyKingdomForACat · 14/06/2025 13:44

Yes. Do snails sneeze?

Bollynicks · 14/06/2025 13:52

Constantly for my whole life. This year I've tried to make an effort to not Google as much.

No. They don’t fart either.

No. They don’t fart either.

Thank you

i often have what seem to be random thoughts. I then make myself run through the stages my mind went through to get to the ‘random’ thought, and there is usually higgledy piggledy process leading up to it,

eg: it’s a nice day today.. I wonder what the weather will be like on our holiday… hopefully not like that time we went to Dorset and had to watch Night at the Museum to keep out of the rain. That was a great film - the pharaoh was fab. I wonder how Pyramids were built?

Ineedanewsofa · 14/06/2025 14:45

Yes, all the bloody time! I have loads of notes in my phone where I’ve jotted down a random question so I don’t distract myself from what I’m doing

Kneeslikethese · 14/06/2025 14:45

All of the time.
Did Mary and Joseph have a proper wedding ceremony after jesus was born was the first thought that popped into my head when I woke up today 🤣

This reminds me of the time my mind blew when I realised, as an adult, that biblical and Roman epics could be set half a millennium apart. Cloaks and sandals really staying in fashion is my defence.

My most recent ‘how did we get onto this’ was a conversation with my kids about dog nationalities. This started when we observed rescue dogs from abroad often have a certain look. It may be that they’re largely mongrels who are mixed from breeds which are less common here. This then led onto how if you got a rescue dog from Spain, say, you’d be able to say cheese - which we can’t utter in front of my dog-nephew or he starts acting silly and he has also got wise to w.a.l.k - but you might not be able to say queso. Then we had do all dogs speak a common dog language, what about behaviour, do dogs from quieter, politer cultures behave differently. It got to ‘would dogs racially identify with their families if they were aware of the concept’ before we chucked it.

Kids are the best for this: a little
girl we know recently asked whether she could go and see aliens when she dies or is heaven compulsory.

Yes this! I also have shopping lists on my notes in my phone and down the bottom will be questions that popped into my head when out and that I need to google the answer to when I get home.

ObtuseMoose · 14/06/2025 15:34

Of course, I would imagine it's a universal thing.

ginasevern · 14/06/2025 16:10

Yes, all sorts of random general knowledge sort of stuff. Usually about five minutes after I've got into bed and I can't wait till the morning to google the answers. But, I've usually forgotten what I wanted to know by the time I get up.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 14/06/2025 17:02

All the time. I think they do for most people (I have asked although it is a small sample!).

DilemmaDelilah · 14/06/2025 18:46

Frequently! I can't think of anything right at the moment but I would say at least 3 times a week I will turn to my DH and say 'I wonder what' or 'why do' or 'what if' or something similar...

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 14/06/2025 18:49

All the time.

Last night, drifting off to sleep I suddenly wondered How do you give a hedgehog CPR without poking yourself

the80sweregreat · 14/06/2025 19:21

I often wonder where humanity would be if the cave men / women hadn’t invented the wheel or if penicillin hadn’t been discovered.

LordJohnGrey · 15/06/2025 18:00

What did people do before Google? Just keeps wondering about these things, or did they store them up and use an encyclopedia.

I do remember as a child asking questions of my DF who woukd answer a lot of them but at times I would get sent to look them up ( I guess he didn't know either).

OP posts:
KnewYearKnewMe · 15/06/2025 20:31

@LordJohnGrey- i would go to the library and look things up.

I also had a dictionary next to my bed to look up words whilst I was reading.

those were the days!

i heard a quote along the lines of ‘the least used words in the English language are now “I wonder”….’ Because none of us have to.

(paraphrased horribly!)

Yes continuously. I do love Google.
