One thing you wish you could change about yourself

Physical or mental change.

I wish I could be more direct, I tend to avoid saying what I really think. I’m working on it.

You?

Funnily enough I was lying in bed thinking of what I would change in my family. I’d wish for my son to find his dream job and enjoy it. DD ditto. That my DD’s MS would go away and my type 1 diabetes. That both my kids would find kind, generous, loyal partners. That I would get to a healthy weight. Then I thought I can’t control any of that but the last one. So I’m going to stop wishing and do something about it!

I wish I could sing. It's stupid, it makes no real difference to my life that I can't, but it's been a sore place since I was a child that I can't sing in tune

Other than that I'm pretty content.

MyKingdomForACat · 14/06/2025 13:48

To stop catastrophising and to have slim legs

DiscoBob · 14/06/2025 13:53

Gawd there's loads.

That I wasn't such a people pleaser.
That I had motivation and wasn't mentally unwell.
That my nose wasn't broken three times. That one I'm hoping we can rectify!
That I didn't have arrested development from when I was about 14...

Genuinelyenquiring · 14/06/2025 13:58

I wish I didn't have OCD.

I wish I didn’t care what anyone thought about me. I so admire people who are like this. They just live their best life. I’m always bothered by worrying.

I know exactly what you mean and I’m the same, but it also means you are empathetic. The less you care, the higher up you are on the narcissist scale of not valuing or others’ opinions at all, so I’d much rather be more in the middle.

I’d love to speak multiple languages. Ideally Arabic (not sure on dialect), French and Spanish or Italian. I feel like it would unlock so much of life!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 14/06/2025 15:56

I think I'd be happy if I was slimmer. Not slim, just not fat. I know in theory it's attainable but I just can't seem to do it. Why oh why? I have been so lucky in my life in so many ways, I have such potential stuck inside a flabby body.

Like you OP I wish I could be more direct and assertive. I am so polite and people like me but I feel so two faced sometimes because I'm always holding back. Everyone presumes i agree with them because i never disagree. Yesterday I said something to shop staff, not rudely or even aimed at them, but something was displayed that they couldn't sell due to some error and I said they should have it removed from the shop floor as it wasn't fair on customers. A nothing comment but I was so so happy with myself afterwards, the old me would never have said that and gone home irritated. I felt really proud, genuinely 😆

cattypussclaw · 14/06/2025 17:18

@alwaysstressedI hear you. My skin’s the same. Wouldn’t it be life changing if you could just not worry if another big zit hasn’t popped up
when you weren’t looking?

That's an eminently realisable ambition! French when you know English is like falling off a log.

I want to be able to sing. Not just "in tune" like some amateur (not the one currently howling in the pub opposite, lol) but like an actual 19th century virtuoso. I want to be Adelina Patti, Pol Plançon and Fernando de Lucia. Queen Victoria will shower me with riches and Rossini will weep with humiliation because I make his music sound better than it did the way he wrote it. Scholars will pore over my recordings and marvel at my genius. The shades of Farinelli and Orpheus himself will be invoked... you get the picture. I mean, I have bigger problems than not being an interpretive operatic genius but I don't care.

Me too. I used to be able to sing (well, I thought so!) but a bodged thyroid op 6 years ago left me with only one vocal cord so I sound really flat now. It's surprising how much I miss it 😥

Gatekeeper · 14/06/2025 17:25

I wish I had a jawline, bone structure, a chin instead of the deflated balloon that is my face

take10yearsofmylife · 14/06/2025 17:43

To be a genius, my life will become a lot easier.

ohyesido · 14/06/2025 17:47

I’d have light hair on my body instead of fighting a constant battle with hirsutism

My MH, I've been medicated for anxiety, OCD and clinical depression since I was 11, I'm 40 now I'd like a rest from myself please.

I feel you. MH for me as well. On Effexor since I was 20 for depression and anxiety. 45 now. The worst thing is that I can't rely on my energy to last a whole day so I pace and plan so that the children get the best of me and what's left time wise I rest. My DH says that I live like an old person which is not true. My 80 year old Mil needs less rest than I do!

Redrosesposies · 14/06/2025 17:50

I was going to say my weight because it's been the bane of my life since puberty and I now at 65, have T2 diabetes due to 50+ years of yo-yo dieting and still 2 stone overweight, but I think actually it would be my height. I am just over 5ft 2 and still feel like a child when talking to grown ups ie.taller people😄.
Plus if I was 5ft 5 I wouldn't look so fat.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 14/06/2025 17:58

I wish I was less angry all the time, I seem to dislike most of the population and it’s not a great way to live.

Peanutbutterflies · 14/06/2025 18:01

Smaller boobs 34j are just too big!

Anon765898 · 14/06/2025 18:10

My legs. I’m not exaggerating when I describe them as hideous. Even the phrase ‘cankle’ goes nowhere near covering it, I literally go from thigh to foot same width.
Even doctors/nurses are shocked whenever I’m being examined for other stuff! I’ll only rarely go swimming - people stare so much.
Straight leg trousers are as tight as leggings on me.
It means I can never where anything that isn’t floor length and it gets so hot in the summer 🥵

Belladog1 · 14/06/2025 18:13

When I became perimenopausal I developed a saggy low fat band around my lower stomach / hips that drops down. It even covers my fanny area!! Every item of clothing, unless baggy, shows it. I hate it and I hate being naked. I refuse to even look at myself in the mirror

Eminybob · 14/06/2025 20:03

My face. After losing 7 stone I now realise it was not my size that made me unattractive.

KirriIrry · 14/06/2025 20:16

To be one of those people who just knows the right thing to say, no matter what’s happening.
To be more energetic and upbeat.

EmeraldDreams73 · 14/06/2025 20:25

Firstly, I'd get rid of the Bile Acid Malabsorption. That has affected me SO much since age 17. Affected my entire life, career options, social occasions, you name it. Was undiagnosed for 30 years then diagnosed and fairly under control with treatment for past 5 years but needs lifelong drugs and management. The anxiety will never leave me.

Otherwise, my sugar addiction and subsequent weight problem.

Can I have a longer list?!

Squirrelblanket · 14/06/2025 20:33

I wish I could fall asleep almost at will, like my husband can. He can sleep anywhere. I can only sleep at night under very specific conditions and it can take ages to fall asleep. He puts his head on the pillow/leans back against a seat on the plane or train etc and he's out like a light.

My skin. I would sell my soul to the devil for clear skin. I’m now 57, have had spots since around 11 and nothing, nothing, has had any effect on it.

I read on here about soolantra last month, apparently it total game changer. Otherwise buy ivermectin horse wormer-do a patch test!
