Getting to Principality Stadium Cardiff

Specifically parking help...

I'm off to see Lana Del Rey soon. I don't live that far from Cardiff but have never done a stadium gig there.

I've left it too late to book a bus which is fine. Don't fancy dealing with the chaos that is Cardiff Central.

It doesn't look like there are any park and ride options unfortunately. 2 suggestions I've had that I just want to corroborate really are parking down the bay and walking and parking by the prison and walking.

Happy to walk, they reckon it's around 15 minutes to walk from there which is fine. Will I be able to get a parking space though and will I be stuck in traffic trying to get out?

Any advice appreciated!

Parking in the Bay is more tricky at the moment as the Mermaid Quay car park is being refurbished and that’s putting a lot of strain on other parking places. I’ve done on street parking at the Bay end of Bute Street before for events but don’t know what the loss of a substantial car park in the area would mean.

Thank you, that's really helpful to know. I'll rule out the bay idea I think. I don't think I have the nerve or the knowledge of Cardiff to try on street parking tbh. That's why I'm a bit nervous of the car park being full, not sure where I'd go if that happens!

Sofia Gardens would be the best one. They do event parking there for most of the stadium gigs. Walking from the bay isn’t doable. I know it says 15 minutes but it’s through a rough as part of town.

The works at Cardiff Central have finished now. It’s not too bad round there now. Wherever you park you’ll get stuck leaving after the gig. I often finish work at midnight and it’s a nightmare getting home when stadium gigs are on. It’s a 10 minute drive normally and took me an hour to get home after Ed Sheeran

Went recently from London to Cardiff by train for rugby game - literally a 5 min walk to the stadium . Sooooo easy. Highly recommend!

Park in Newport and train in to cardiff

CMOTDibbler · 13/06/2025 21:10

We always park at the multi storey by the prison, and it is a 15 min walk, but also super easy for getting out of Cardiff afterwards

Wibblybynature · 13/06/2025 21:14

I always park in St David’s centre car park. I tend to go earlier in the day and pay the extra parking charge. There’s always lots of people walking back there after the gig, so I feel safer this way.

We had a nightmare when we went to see Springsteen - we parked in the bay and by the time we'd got back to the car park we hit all the traffic and it took well over 60 minutes to get back on the road towards the M4. We've actually said never again it was that bad, we'll get the train next time.

MessageMystery · 13/06/2025 21:16

Could you park somewhere like Cathays or Taffs Well and get the train into Cardiff Central?

Bluebluetuesday · 13/06/2025 21:23

I'd look to get on road parking around Cathays, the student part. But honestly, Transport for Wales seem to purposely go out of their way to get it so desperately wrong on match days and when there's a big gig on, it baffles me.

Justletmemoveon · 13/06/2025 21:26

I’m going with my daughter too and I found a space on JustPark about 15 mins walk from the stadium

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/06/2025 21:27

The p&r in the bay is in the old toysrus / vaccination centre car park. It’s cash only and not all that big but will be pretty easy to get out if afterwards.

Knox Road is a good shout though

GherkinsOnToast · 13/06/2025 21:27

We always book an NCP parking spot at Greyfriars

Thelonelydonkey · 13/06/2025 21:28

Where are you travelling from?

To be honest I think you'll be fine. Llana del Rey won't attract a quarter of the traffic a match day does. Catching a train in is a good idea, otherwise lots of parking options. my only advice is to avoid the NCP on Adsm.St/Pellatt street. We got stuck there for about 1.5 hours on cardiff half marathon day. The traffic lights only let about 3 cars out at a time.

Thanks all, I'm coming from west of Cardiff. I've just checked the trains again and they're now showing trains every 15 mins right up to 1.30ish so I think I'm going to do that. Last time I checked it was still the normal 1 every hour until midnightish. I don't have a lot of faith in tfw either but they've already exceeded my expectations by actually laying on extra trains!

Trains would be the best certainly. But for future ref, we gotten as DD lives there. We always get a JustPark around the Tyndall Street area (there’s quite a lot of little places in that area), Schooner Way, Brigantine Place. Short walk from there.
