Eurostar fuck-up

I've just realised I've booked my return ticket for the wrong date and now the fares have gone up. Merde.

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to have to suck it up, but does anyone know of any hacks to change the date without incurring additional costs?

It’s worth a phone call/ email. A few years ago my dh booked our tickets the wrong way round (leaving France rather than Uk). They were really helpful and sorted it quickly. There may have been a small admin charge but I can’t be sure.
Can you upgrade your ticket to flexible, may be cheaper

Have you checked whether Eurostar Snap is an option for you. It’s a new way to buy tickets, directly from Eurostar at a very reduced rate. You nominate the day of travel and pick a morning/afternoon slot and Eurostar will tell you about 24 hrs before travel exactly which train you are on. Of course, you are likely to get an antisocial time but we got tickets back from Brussels for £45 at about 8am.

PS - I don’t work for Eurostar

Thanks, but all Eurostar tickets are already flexible inasmuch as there's no admin fee. You just have to pay the fare difference so starting again with Eurostar Snap will still be more expensive than changing my existing ticket.

I'm just very annoyed with myself - don't usually make these cock-ups! - and wish I'd noticed sooner before the fares increased.

I went to Lille on the Eurostar in May. I booked it about 3 months in advance. Shortly after the fares went up (I was keeping an eye on it as wanted to upgrade to the next level). They went up and down for a bit then pretty much stayed the same (high level) until we went. What I'm saying is how much time until you leave? They might go down a bit (but they won't by much in my experience) then they'll go back up. It's a bit of a gamble.

There are some terms and conditions that mention how much you have to pay to change the date. I thought it was Eur 25 and the fare difference but could be wrong.

Two months.

No, it's just the fare difference.

I found in the last month the price stayed the same or went up. It's a bit of a gamble but you might be lucky if you keep an eye on the price the next few days.

I waited until today and the last train had gone down by £10 so I went for that one. An annoying waste of money, but at least not quite as much as it would have been yesterday!

Oh well, you saved £10 - better than nothing.
