Moving to Lancashire

Made a bold decision to move to be closer to daughter and grandchild. I have lived in the north east, in the same house for over 40 years so this is a big deal for me.
We have had a couple of trips to scout out the area but would be helpful to get locals opinions.
I Need to be able to commute around the region easily for my job and if I secure a position with LA, would need to travel to office when required. However for living, I prefer semi-rural, small town/village feel.
We like the look of Longridge, Garstang, Grimsgargh but not sure if commuting to the likes of Preston or Blackburn would be a nightmare, also not sure if they’re a bit out of reach budget wise….approx 250k. My daughter lives in Darwen so would ideally like to be within half an hour or so from there. Is there anywhere else I should be looking at that won’t put me in the middle of big town/city?

My sister lives in Grimsargh. It seems a lovely place, close to facilities in Longridge but also semi rural and with beautiful countryside around. There does seem to be a fairly regular bus service to Preston too as I've caught it occasionally.

Penwortham, Hutton, Longton are all lovely areas. Not too far from Preston city centre and M6/M65 so good for commuting, but still have a nice semi rural feel. Great independent shops, bars, restaurants and a lovely green flag parks too.

We moved to Darwen about 2 years ago. There's pockets of semi rural villages all within easy reach of us. Hoddlesden, Blacksnape, Tockholes to name just a few examples. You definitely get more for your money around here and all easily commutable to Blackburn and Preston.

Not sure about longridge but Garstang can be bad for travelling, the A6 gets very congested at times. Belthorn is near Darwen and easy access to the motorway but snow in winter is occasionally bad. Stunning views though

Longridge area is beautiful but not cheap. Access to Preston and Blackburn is fine. Bypass and a Mway (M65) up there. darwen more old town but cheaper. Chorley area is good esp Brinscall, Withnell areas but again expensive. This is land owned by the De Hoghton family (Duke) so obviously a prime area.

Grimsargh and longridge are lovely and I considered moving there. What put me off is there are a lot of newbuilds and only one route in and out which means there is a lot of traffic in peak times. They keep putting temporary lights up which cause absolute chaos.

Have you considered west Lancashire? There’s some lovely villages at the other side of Preston too that I didn’t know existed until I went exploring. Longton, tarleton etc are great but slightly longer I imagine to get to Darwen probably 45 mins.

I used to work in Preston. It didn't matter which direction I was coming from, getting into the centre was a nightmare at rush hour. Especially if you're heading for County Hall / East Cliff and other central offices.
From Darwen, you've got places like Abbey Village, Brinscall, Helmshore, Clayton-le-Woods, Euxton all within about a half hour drive. Not sure that some of those places closer to the M6 would be out of your budget. The further along the M65 you get away from Preston, the cheaper you'll find some areas but still about a half hour to Darwen.

Apologies, first time posting and I can’t work out how to reply to individual posts 🫣 but thank you for all your suggestions - I think I need a few more scouting trips before we pin down an area
