If a train stopped because it broke down or because of an emergency

What would you do if you needed the loo?

This happened to me recently. The train stopped between stations because of an incident further down the line. Fortunately we weren't stopped for too long before the train terminated at the next station, but we were initially told that we would be held for a couple of hours. My first thought was - what if I need the loo? I do have anxiety around this irl which was why it crossed my mind and fortunately had been just before I left. But I wouldn't have been ok for a couple of hours! I'm just wondering if you have been in this situation or what you think you would do if you were?

Op for many years our local trains didn't have loos, trains getting stopped for long periods just doesn't happen.

They might initially say 'oh it could be a while' just to set the expectations that your going to be delayed. Then they come up with something like getting people to the next station.

I'm sure they do it that way so they aren't doing the "we'll only be 10min' then 10mins passes and "oh its another 10mins" which would really frustrate people.

Should it really come to the worse I could picture them letting people of to go and find a bush, but it would be extreme for it to come to that.

Actually, yes it does. A report by the Office of Rail and Road on an incident outside Paddington in December 2023 revealed that a train was stranded – stuck for at least two hours between stations – more than once a day across the UK rail network.
