Opinions on 'Disney Adults'?

Bit of controversy regarding this? I feel there's a stigma. I personally wouldn't look at an adult who enjoys Disney and think wrong of them!

I have a 3yo and 1yo and I'm reliving my childhood a bit with some Disney stuff. We've been once (planning to go back) and they like the films and I think kids Disney clothing, accessories, homeward and toys etc are so cute!

I do like Disney stuff! I love the films, loved going to Disneyland Paris it was magical. But the other day a family member made a joke "oh be careful don't become a Disney adult"

I laughed it off but then thought why would it be bad if I enjoyed Disney trips etc? I don't personally dress in character clothing or have homeware but love the kids stuff and love Paris and the films etc

Is anyone else in agreement that the negativity around 'Disney adult' just needs to be dropped? Why so judgmental?

I'm a happy Disney adult! Not ND (nor any of the other 'been to Disney without kids' couples that I know). Just find it enjoyable; haven't given it any deeper thought than that.

Also a fan of Lego, D&D, video games... so I guess I just didn't fancy growing up :D (Although I have to say wine does enhance all of these childish hobbies quite a lot!!)

’I just didn’t fancy growing up’ is quite perfect.

As well as my expensive Disney habits, I also collect Monster High and have recently branched out to include G1 My Little Pony.
It’s always fun when little nieces come to the house and I won’t share my toys with them. They get paper and crayons.

MrsAvocet · 11/06/2025 14:11

We don't mock men for liking marvel or lego or DnD or sports.
You're kidding? As the mother of a young man who is very interested in Lego and other forms of modelling as well as DnD and Warhammer I can assure you that people do indeed mock men who are interested in those kind of things. My son has been on the receiving end of some pretty merciless bullying in fact.

TheIceBear · 11/06/2025 14:11

I really don’t get it I don’t even like Disney though I did enjoy it as a small child. I enjoy Harry Potter books and films as an adult so I can’t really judge though…I don’t make it my whole personality/broadcast it or decorate my house with Harry Potter themed things.

Tortielady · 11/06/2025 14:13

I enjoy the animated feature films and have 3 plushies - the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat and Lucifer as well as a couple of mugs -they are huge, thick, robust things and I recommend them if you are, or live with someone who is very clumsy. And I have a book of Disney stories, though it's not the one I had in the 70s, with Dumbo on the dust- jacket

I wouldn't go to a Disney theme park if you paid me. The thought of being among that many people and all the noise and queuing makes my blood freeze. But I don't see why others shouldn't if that's what they enjoy or why it makes any difference to me (or is indeed, any of my business.) I still like some of the books I enjoyed as a child and have some of them on my bookcase alongside TS Eliot and Richard Hoggart. Why shouldn't others integrate what they liked when they were children with their lives now?

QuickPeachPoet · 11/06/2025 14:15

My ex was like this. It gave me the ick, majorly.

ERthree · 11/06/2025 14:26

Each to their own. I enjoy a Disney film but would i have a Disney teapot or duvet cover, not a chance. Do i look at grown adults with a Mickey Mouse bag and think they are a tiny bit nuts ? Yeah but they are normally harmless.

GameOfJones · 11/06/2025 15:23

It's completely harmless in my opinion. I don't get it....in much the same way I don't see the appeal of following a football team, or anime, or spin classes or musical theatre. But we are all different and like different things.

As long as they aren't hurting anyone, who cares?

We’ve been to Disney a few times with our kids and absolutely love it. Can totally see why there are adults that go without kids, buuuuut it’s a little strange to see grown ups doing the character breakfasts without kids for example and being besides themselves excited to meet Donald Duck

Disney do not aim their publicity only at children. They know who holds the purse strings! They, very sensibly from a marketing point of view, market at adults too - look at all the expensive collectables they sell, for example. It isn't strange that some adults respond to their marketing.

WonsWoo · 11/06/2025 18:52

I think it was Taylor Swift that said something like only miserable people mock others for being excited about something. Or words to that effect.

I will never ever understand why anyone would judge someone else for something they find enjoyment from.

Having said that I am a huge KPop fan and I never tell anyone in real life because people love to judge!

I think you’ve misunderstood what I was getting at, I don’t find it strange at all that adults enjoy Disney and go to Disney without kids, wear Disney jumpers etc, I do that myself when at Disney, I do find it a little strange though that you get some adults at Disney that act like small children at Disney character breakfasts etc, but each to their own.

turkeyboots · 11/06/2025 19:00

Its on a par with train or plane spotting and adult fans of Lego or Warhammer as a niche hobby. Unusual verging on werid.

101Alsatians · 11/06/2025 19:00

I love Disney.

Sadly,my kids aged 8 and 13 have never been interested even when they were little.

I'm not wrong or weird - but likewise, neither are they!

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 11/06/2025 19:02

I am one, so I think they’re awesome!

I see what you mean - they're probably the type of adult who behaves in a childlike way in other circumstances, though - e.g. squealing and shouting if they get given a present, always bouncing around twittering about random stuff at work - rather than this being specifically Disney-induced.

Warhammer is not for kids! No kid could afford it anyway 😂

PhotoFirePoet · 11/06/2025 19:09

I really don’t understand why people judge others for liking harmless, fun things, just because they aren’t interested. I am 57 and I like Barbie dolls, Harry Potter, Garfield and Bagpuss and and don’t care who knows it! I like a lot of Disney things myself too, I would love an adult size Belle costume! I think adults who never forget how to “play” are the happiest and become interesting, cool seniors!

So I say go for it 100%! Dress up as a character if you want to, even if it’s Marie from The Aristocrats! 😊

PeppyLilacLion · 11/06/2025 19:18

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest- to each their own. The only time I would judge is those ones who push little kids out of the way at Disneyland to get to the front row etc- that I do massively judge and have seen it happen.

Surroundedbyfools · 11/06/2025 19:18

Personally I think it’s a little bit odd but at the end of the day it’s harmless and if it makes ppl happy then what do I know eh!

bibliomania · 11/06/2025 19:23

People need joy in their lives. Disney is not where I personally go looking for it, but we won't all find it in the same places.

DiscoPolly · 11/06/2025 19:31

MsTamborineMan · 11/06/2025 13:48

Any harmless activity/interest adults have is none of my concern

Anyone over 10 who judges another adult for said harmless interest needs to grow the fuck up.

We don't mock men for liking marvel or lego or DnD or sports. We don't laugh at groups of men in football gear so why groups of mostly women in Disney ears?

People absolutely do mock men who are into things like DnD, trainspotting, battle reenactments and other less mainstream activities.

HunnyPot · 11/06/2025 19:53

This makes no sense. And the backlash against Disney Adults isn’t the misogyny you think it is.

Men are mocked for all the things you listed. Did the whole trend for calling men ’MAMIL’ pass you by?

I come across more men than women who are into Disney and wear Disney ears.

The criticism against Disney Adults is usually always aimed at men over women.

Yes you’re probably right 😂

LouiseK93 · 11/06/2025 22:33

People can like what they like as long as it doesn't hurt others.
Being an adult that likes Disney does not define a person 😂
