Help with stopping vaping - desperate!

Help please! I have been using 10 mg disposables for a few years. Since the ban on June 1st (that isn't really a ban) I’ve gone up to 20 mg.

I stopped smoking using the Allen Carr book in my early 20s and stayed stopped for 15 years. I started having the occasional roll-up with alcohol and then got a chargeable vape about 8 years ago. Then I was introduced to disposables in 2022. I now vape constantly, especially as I work from home.

I’m constantly tired and when I woke up this morning I felt short of breath. I convince myself the vape is controlling my weight but in reality I’ve put on two stones in three years because if I’m not working I lie on my bed, vape and scroll.

Im going on holiday in a couple of weeks to a country where it will be almost impossible to get vapes. Can I go cold turkey there?

I've recently kicked a 10 year vaping habit (started vaping to give up cigs!)

I used a nicorette inhaler for the first month and then slowly weaned myself of it. I also had a short hospital stay that helped - a change in routine made it much easier to distract myself and not want to use the inhaler.

I still have occasional cravings but they only last a few seconds and I distract myself when they happen. I honestly thought I'd never manage to give up and I'm so pleased that I have.

I've heard that the nicorette mist spray is good too - having that nicotine replacement really helped me in the initial days/weeks. Being in a different country should really help as it will be a huge break in routine and all the usual habits that you associate with vaping.

Good luck @KalamataGeranium you can absolutely do it !

I’ve just stopped after 10 years using the Allen Carr audiobook. If it worked for you before it’s worth another go. Worst case scenario is you buy cigs on holiday, not great but it’s only for a week or two. Best case is you ditch the nicotine habit once and for all.

Allen Carr has a vaping book. I read it one afternoon and was done!! That was three years ago.
Give it a go, good luck

I can’t see myself buying cigarettes, the smell makes me feel sick - then again this 20 mg vape is making me feel sick 🤢 It’s great to hear that someone has stopped after a ten-year habit.

You can definitely do it.. going cold turkey on holiday might actually help wd change in routine. also check out https://www.puffstats.com/. it’s made to support quitting without nicotine and helps break the habit loop.

I smoked since I was 12, got addicted to vapes when I was 20, and finally kicked the habit about 4 years ago. I bought a vape you have to refill and bought 10mg liquid. Then I tapered down to 5mg, then 2.5, then 0mg. In the end I was just puffing 0mg nicotine for the habit and eventually just stopped. I found it so much easier to taper down than cold turkey.

This. I did the same - read it - binned my vapes and haven’t touched one since.

This is going to sound counter-productive but buy a rechargable with refillable pods. Then vape the fuck out of 0% nicotine (short fill) flavours.

Once you've got your head around the fact that there's no nicotine and it's just hand to mouth habit, it's just a case of finding a replacement habit to do with your hands that isn't eating.

Break the habit not the addiction - you know you lay on your bed and doom scroll and vape so find something else to do, or give yourself a time limit for the bed/scroll/vape before getting up and doing something else.

Whatever way you choose, it will take a bit of self-discipline and willpower.

Thanks - it’s the eating that worries me. I have some non-disposable vapes and 3 mg liquid, so I can cut down from the 20 mg that is making me feel sick.
