Would you actually want to win the lottery

I'm talking the big big amounts like the 200 million like on the euro millions i always thought i would, no money worries, nice house, quit my job etc etc but now im getting older (late 30s) i honestly don't think i would. I'd love enough to pay of mortgage, a new car and some nice holidays and some home renovations. But to actually win 200 million i honestly think I'd be miserable as it would change everything and I'm just happy where I'm at. I wouldn't want to be unemployed, not being able to trust who your real friends are, security issues, moving home etc I just don't think it sounds that great in reality.

Yes please although I don’t actually play the lottery so no chance

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 09/06/2025 20:47

Yes, obviously. I wouldn’t keep it all - just enough to give up work and live comfortably and to set my family up for life. Then I’d donate to causes important to me.

Twinkletwinklelil · 09/06/2025 20:47

Yes I would. I’m mid 30s and I would most certainly love to win it. I’d pay off all debts, mortgage, buy an investment home, gift it to family, give to charity, invest in something. Buy kids investments. Be set for life. I would love to please and thanks lol

BalloonsAndBicycles · 09/06/2025 20:50

Yes, I’ve already decided on a big community project that would take lots of money to set up and run if I ever win! Between that and my many holidays I think I’d be happy!

WhereTheSpiritMeetsTheBones · 09/06/2025 20:52

I always find it surprising when people say, with a 200m win, they'd still work or buy a small house that isn't a mansion. Its 200m!
That would make you one of the richest people in the UK. You could give money away to family or charity and still have a caviar lifestyle.

MissAnthr0pe · 09/06/2025 20:58

I'd love to win enough to pay me what I currently earn for the rest of my life so I don't feel tied to my job. But £200 million would be more trouble than it's worth. I feel I'll need 24/7 security and even then I won't trust them!

Ps: Like others I will give most of it away, but even before that happens the nature of a lottery win means a good few people who aren't family/friends will know how much you have in the bank...

Chewbecca · 09/06/2025 20:58

I think £1-2m would be a better amount to win.

FallingArrow · 09/06/2025 21:00

Yes, I would be careful with use of it though and make sure the DC still got good careers to feel a sense of purpose.
Would buy them nice houses and holidays but not fund their entire lives.

BastardesEverywhere · 09/06/2025 21:01

Fucking right I would.

Mum2jenny · 09/06/2025 21:03

It would be a nice problem to worry about if I won £200 million, but I’m sure I’d be able to spend it.

OrangePineapple25 · 09/06/2025 21:04

What sort of a stupid question is this. Obviously.

if you want to continue to live like a poorper you can give it all away.

FlatErica · 09/06/2025 21:08

Yes of course and then I’d give most of it away!

Awobabobob · 09/06/2025 21:10

I would but I would probably tell no one in my life apart from dp and probably employ someone to help me give it to worthy causes

gingercat02 · 09/06/2025 21:10

Yep, give loads away but also live an amazing life
£100,000 would do, I would retire tomorrow

Pauper

ConflictedbutCritical · 09/06/2025 21:12

Absolutely. A relatively small amount of money would completely change my life. But with a large amount, I could change many people's lives.

FancyCatSlave · 09/06/2025 21:12

Absolutely I would. I’d have a blast with it. I already know exactly what it would all go on. Horses mainly.

I am particularly gutted I didn’t win the Euromillions last week, I’d spent it in my head.

Awobabobob · 09/06/2025 21:10

Pauper

I’d get spelling lessons with my 200mil

stample · 09/06/2025 21:17

Buy a house but not go overboard just the same size house we are in now but just buy rather than rent. Go on holiday, nothing too lavish but fun for all the family. Help my mum out- prob move her nearer to me and pay for a live in carer. Big chunk in kids savings. Probably do something random and have a helicopter fly me and family over Europe because why not. I’d like to think tic give to several charities close to my heart too. I would still work to keep my friendship group/ social life and keep some normality.

StarDolphins · 09/06/2025 21:19

I would want to win it to change the lives of millions of abused animals as I would donate 95-99% of it. I have no desire for big money for myself though.

I don’t do the lottery though!

ConflictedbutCritical · 09/06/2025 21:21

I could fund so many wonderful projects.

When I go to work, it's not unusual for people to tell me they don't know what they would do without my team. Or that they are so grateful we were there when they needed us.

We could give that feeling to so many more people.

StooOrangeyForCrows · 09/06/2025 21:23

Think of the good you could do with it. All those kids that need a cheap as chips course of antibiotics and need relatively quick surgeries that would be life changing for them. Ooofe, it would be amazing to bring hope to all those people.

BorgQueen · 09/06/2025 21:26

I would, I could buy a 500 acre country estate and live completely off grid, it would be wonderful not to have to deal with fucking idiots ever again. If I went on holiday I would hire a private jet or charter a luxury yacht and then pay people to leave me the fuck alone.

Igmum · 09/06/2025 21:29

I know what you mean OP. Part of me loves the thought of being seriously rich, of being able to set up a really nice properly resourced women’s refuge or maybe proper provision to help SEN kids or get them into work but I would fear the risk of DD being kidnapped or targeted by fortune hunters. I guess I’ll just have to settle for £1-20 million then. I could have lots of fun with that Grin

REDB99 · 09/06/2025 21:29

Friends of my family won around 60 million. Tried to keep it quiet but just impossible as of course your life changes. They no longer live near close friends as bought a very expensive new place and a home in another country. They invite their old crowd to events etc and are very generous, have given lots of money to their family and charity. But their life has changed, they no longer pop into see their friends as they don’t live near by. They only see people when there are occasions and specific invites, moved too far away to pop to the pub with the regulars etc They’re certainly not unhappy but they are distant from their old life and they miss it.
