Reading the thread about detached houses I’ve realised I’m not that bothered in terms of noise as my previous terrace was fine. However, our garden is not overlooked at all, which is rare in our town. I didn’t realise how much I’d love the privacy as I liked our old over looked garden, but I love it and don’t think I’d want to lose that.

we bought a new to us car with top spec and it had heated seats - I’m not fussed about these if I’m honest, but I LOVE the heated steering wheel. I didn’t even know that was a thing but my winter commute is so much nicer 😂

Same! I remember chortling at the idea people would want to video call each other or look at the internet on the trainGrin

I guess that's why I'm not a tech billionaire

Lol. Ditto!

I love how my Kindle and Audible sync so when I finish listening in the car it picks up where I’m at on the Kindle. I know they’re both Amazon products but it still feels like wizardry and I love it!

I second the air fryer and boiling water tap. Separate utility room with ceiling mounted clothes airer also excellent. Finally our breadmaker, was worried it wouldn't get used that much but it's out every day!

definitely new car things:

our car boot opens at a button and also will open if you stand next to it with key or synced phone. Never having to hoik a boot up or slam a boot shut

it recognises which driver is in the driving seat and auto adjusts the seat forward or back, up and down and steering wheel closer or further away for me and my husband. All settings remembered for me such as favourite radio station

car has auto hold eg on a hill it holds it still no need for foot on break

auto headlights inc full beam which comes on in the dark or off when a car approaches you. Auto windscreen wipers

heated and cooled seats in whole car.

cruise control and speed limiter

360 parking cameras and sensors

Edited

Oh, the automatic adjustment of seating position etc ! I’d love that, me at 5’4” and DH at 6’ and he prefers to have the seat raked back as if he’s in a deckchair and I prefer a more meerkat effect.

Obvious though it may sound, smartphones. I got my first IPhone as late as 2015 after thinking they were expensive gimmicks. Now, of course, I’m as dependent on my phone as everyone else.

Air fryer.. the oven hasn’t been switched on since Christmas 😂

Ditto. Although I did put a pizza in the oven once

Takinitgottobserd · 11/06/2025 19:58

Very intrigued about what @Manygummies could possibly have written replying to my post about robot hoovers that is so bad it’s been deleted 😂

Yes! Though I’m that desperate to avoid the slow oven that I’ve been known to cut the pizza frozen and put a half into each basket 🤣

Oven is 30 mins warmup and most things take 40 mins so 1hr 10
airfryer no warmup and things take 20-25 mins
no contest!

Sorry to go off topic, but how do you get things to cook so quick? I’ve tried with my air fryer because others rave about them, but it takes just as long to cook potatoes, fish fingers, sausages etc.

Which airfryer do you have?

BeaLola · 11/06/2025 20:36

Air fryer definitely

My heated car seat (I'm not as bothered about heated stearing wheel)

Having en-suite - whenever guests I always have my own private bathroom

My cordless waterless diffuser

Electronic door lock. Everyone has their own code to get in, we got it when DS started high school and I was a bit suss about him potentially losing keys. Dog walker and cleaner have a code so I know when they’ve been in our out, when DM was still alive if she was dropping by and I wasn’t in she could just let herself in, if folk are coming round and you’re running late you can text a code. Game. Changer.

postmanshere · 11/06/2025 20:38

Bidet. Thought it was gross until I tried it.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/06/2025 20:42

Electric rice cooker. I love it! You can cook lots of other things in it too.

Wow I’ve never heard of this, was it expensive

Oh God yes. But I think of bidets as so essential that it wouldn't have occurred to me to include it in this thread.
