Any suggestions for a mobile phone for an older person please?

My relative previously had an old phone of mine, but has lost it. She can be suspicious of technology so it doesn’t need to be a smart phone, but it would be nice if she could receive photos as well as text and calls.
There’s no problems with sight, hearing or cognitive issues.

How old is your relative OP?
I'm 73 and I've got a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G.
I'm quite happy with that.

Morningsleepin · 07/06/2025 22:09

Yes, how old. My very elderly friend whose memory isn't brilliant got into all kinds of problems with an android because she'd always had an iPhone. Once we replaced her android with an iPhone, the problems stopped

fatgirlswims · 07/06/2025 22:15

iPhone are pretty simple

Apillthatmakesyousayalltherightstuff · 07/06/2025 22:17

Doro, iirc

CousinBob · 07/06/2025 23:14

She’s only in her 60’s. She won’t get one herself, so I’d have to buy it.

A Doro was what we got my mum. Not a swipe screen no internet and very easy to use. It was normally switched off and in her sideboard. It got put in her bag if she was going out of the house but not switched on unless she needed to make an emergency call!

doodleygirl · 07/06/2025 23:29

Bloody hell, I didn’t realise “older” was 60’s. I’m 61 and have an iPhone, my MIL whom is in her 80’s also has an iPhone. I think it’s probably a technology issue with your relative rather than a phone issue.

MMBaranova · 07/06/2025 23:39

Blackview Androids.

They don't cost much but have extensive functionality if you want to add things.

Put on as much as seems necessary, hiding / deleting the distracting stuff. If told 'so and so has X' you can reply "you can have that too if you want".

I support phone needs for two old people. I'm talking late 80s into 90s here not 60s.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 07/06/2025 23:46

Doro do some great smartphones which are easy to use. Touchscreen or keypad
They are stylish and don't look like they are designed specifically for the elderly!
Id happily use one but am delighted with my new iPhone 16e

gottakeeponmoving · 07/06/2025 23:47

Dear God. Older is 60's?😮

uncomfortablydumb60 · 07/06/2025 23:47

I'm 60 and 21 in my head and outlook on life😆

cestlavielife · 07/06/2025 23:48

Just look for the same model she had before .
Simple
Cex or other second hand

60s is really not old
Dies she have learning difficulties?

minnienono · 07/06/2025 23:51

My parents are late 80’s and have iPhones. If your relative is 60’s unless incapacitated they can sort out their own tech

CousinBob · 08/06/2025 15:27

I agree that over 60 isn’t old, I only stated the age because the question was asked.
My relative won’t research which would be most suitable as it would be too overwhelming, and certainly wouldn't pay for one.
However, it is in both our interests if she has one, so I will be giving her another.

My mam (81) has an iPhone SE. They are intuitive to use. She hasn’t got data, not because she wouldn’t know how to use it but because she reckons she wouldn’t use it.

She just uses it for texts and as a phone when she’s out and about and it of course connects to the Wi-Fi when she’s at home. She’s got an iPad at home as well.

Dear God. Older is 60's?😮

I must be a dinosaur then!

I wonder if OP has been reading the thread in Site stuff about ageism and MN?

CousinBob · 09/06/2025 09:35

I hadn’t meant to be ageist. Apologies if it has come across that way.
