Multiple times a day! But I work in a library Smile

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/06/2025 18:16

Thursday and Friday. I look like a librarian so people feel safe approaching me.

Was once asked for directions by a soldier in St Petersburg. Him in the classic great coat, speaking Russian. Me non-Russian speaking tourist who'd arrived two days before.

Have also been asked for directions in Caen (day trip) and Copenhagen (literally just arrived at the train station). Apparently I blend in like a local quickly.

elQuintoConyo · 07/06/2025 18:19

This morning. But I live in a tourist hotspot! They were looking for the cathedral.

mnahmnah · 07/06/2025 18:21

A guy a couple of weeks ago stopped in his car when I was walking and asked ‘is there a house along here with Jaguars outside?’ Turns out the person he was visiting just said ‘turn left off the main road and look for a house with Jaguars outside’! We are on a sprawling 60s estate, hardly obvious! And no, I don’t know if a house with Jaguars outside!

OneZingyPeachPoster · 07/06/2025 18:31

Very often - normally ‘where is the Gingerbread shop?’

Thatcannotberight · 07/06/2025 18:42

Every Saturday during junior football season. There are three different pitches in my town and I'm usually stopped by frazzled mums looking for the right one to take their sons to. I'm out walking my dog.

LadyFooFooFrankentits · 07/06/2025 18:51

About three days ago. To a supermarket. I'm not actually from the area but had just been on the same mission so was able to be quite helpful.

flametrees · 07/06/2025 18:54

Most days. My daughter gets asked a lot too. Neither of us have any sense of direction.

I came on here to post this too!!

Wherever we go on holiday I get asked directions in the local language

feelingbleh · 07/06/2025 19:00

I don't think iv been asked in years i just assumed people used their phones now. I definitely got asked a lot more years ago. Although I don't know why so many people asked me as a teenager I use to purposely send them in the wrong direction

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 07/06/2025 19:01

A few weeks ago, when we were in the Underground. A couple asked us the way to the London Eye. They were heading in the wrong direction on that line, although even if they had changed direction, they still had to change to another line and then walk on a bridge over the river.

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 07/06/2025 19:01

Every single day, but I live beside a train station in a tourist hot spot where the station isn’t anywhere near the hot spot!

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 07/06/2025 20:20

A couple of weeks ago, someone looking for the drive test centre it's been shut for years but was showing on a website that it was still there.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/06/2025 20:29

I get asked all the time and I am the WORST person to ask - this meme was made for me

When was the last time you were asked for directions?
ExtensivelyDecluttering · 07/06/2025 20:35

Happens quite a bit here, to walk into town I use a stretch of road just off the main road which it is easy for drivers on the main road to pull into and ask. Usually it's either where's the nearest petrol station or asking for a local tourist attraction that is tucked away and not very well signposted, you have to drive about 2 miles even though it's only a mile away and people can't always understand why the sat nav seems to be sending them such a long and complicated route.

I needed to find the library in a town I visit fairly regularly recently. I knew roughly where it was but very little 4g and maps kept freezing and I kept going wrong. Had to ask 4 people before I found someone that knew.

DonewhatIcando · 07/06/2025 20:39

Every day, several times a day.
I live in a tourist city and work opposite the station, there's lots of roadworks going on which seems to be confusing the tourists.
When I'm outside smoking I'm always getting asked directions, I actually think I've found my calling!
I've met some lovely people

OhMyGiddyAunt · 07/06/2025 22:39

As well as being asked for directions for anywhere I'm visiting, DP has also reminded me about where we live ... we live some where that's popular with walkers, but its spread over a massive distance ....imagine a range of hills spread over miles....

We'll often be out walking and will be stopped by walkers and asked "can you tell me how to get back to the car park?"

Their expressions are priceless when you ask them "which car park?" as it hasn't occurred to them that there are actually lots of car parks spread over a vast area

DappledThings · 07/06/2025 22:40

A week ago, to Poundland!

TicTac80 · 07/06/2025 22:45

Yesterday, when I was at work (hospital!). To be fair, it can be difficult to navigate, so I’ll always stop and offer help if I see someone who looks lost…It’s stressful enough for people visiting hospitals, so I like to try and alleviate some of that stress!

cherrycola66 · 07/06/2025 23:45

Just yesterday actually, a sweet old man pulled over with his wife, they were looking for the health centre which was a few miles down the road

Mumofteenandtween · 08/06/2025 00:01

At least once a week. I live in a tourist city and work about as close to the station as it is possible to get without being able to see the station. I meet a lot of people with suitcases and a “shit I’m going to miss my train” expression.

LoserWinner · 08/06/2025 00:12

This afternoon, when I was walking through an area I had never been before. I was all set to say ‘sorry, I’m a stranger here myself’. But she was only looking for a bus stop, and I could see one about 100 yards along the road in front of us. I assume she must have been rather short sighted.

MrsAvocet · 08/06/2025 00:27

Last week whilst I was out on a bike ride I got asked for directions to the nearest pub by two walkers who'd taken a wrong turn, which was easy but I get asked by delivery drivers fairly often and often can't help. There are no road names or house numbers in our village and the houses are spread over quite a large area.I've lived here for 25 years but still don't know all the house names, especially the ones down little tracks off the "main" road . Plus I know quite a lot of people by their first name only so telling me who the parcel is for often doesn't help much either unfortunately. I do feel sorry for drivers who don't know the area, it must be a nightmare.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/06/2025 05:18

At least once a week! I work in York and tourist season is in full swing.
