Finally getting a shed for my allotment — but what colour should it be? šŸŽØšŸ›–šŸŒ±

After much longing (and shed envy across the plots), I’m finally getting a shed for my allotment! Very exciting — but now I’m completely stuck on what colour to paint it.
If you’ve painted your allotment shed (or even your garden one), I’d love to see it.

Feel free to share a pic, shed porn is real. Brands of paint and shades used will be a great help.

Tempted by a tasteful stone, don't want grey…but also not ruling out something that looks like it was painted during a wine-fuelled weekend.

All inspiration (and cautionary tales) welcome!

Either a nice cotswold green or something super colourful (arsenic by f&b or airforce blue LG)

I think every shed within 50 miles of here (and beyond) is Cuprinol Willow (Inc ours) or possibly a very dark charcoal colour as that apparently recedes into the shadows. What about pink or sky blue?!

There are many greens and blues at the Lottie, fit in or something different?

Purple - like mine

How about the beach hut look? Blue & white stripes, or red with a yellow door, the possibilities are endless.

Newhere5 · 07/06/2025 21:56

We have black shed. It looks great as a backdrop to green leaves

JaninaDuszejko · 07/06/2025 21:58

What's your favourite colour?

Our garden shed has been allowed to naturally grey and according to the Gen Zedders in the family it's 'low key cool' so you always have that as an option.

ExtensivelyDecluttering · 07/06/2025 22:03

I'd stay natural, I don't like coloured sheds.

So many thoughts and choices.

I considered black with a bright yellow or orange trim and doors. Like the ā€˜Jarman’ house.
However that means the shed will always be black, so thinking start light until it needs redoing then move to dark.

As long as the Local Council don't have any restricted colour rules, I'd go for something jolly and bright to cheer you up on gloomy January days. An Ultramarine blue would bring to mind sunny Moroccan or Aegean days!
Or a dark purple is a fab background for greenery.

spiderlight · 07/06/2025 23:24

I don't have a photo but ours is purple - it's under our plum tree and it's (accidentally) exactly the same colour as the plums.

Cuprinol is (was?) on offer in B&M. £10.50 for 5L. Make sure you get the ducksback range - not the colours range - as it has extra water repelling properties. We only had to repaint our shed after 10 years. We have bog standard forest green.

Sunshineandrainbow · 08/06/2025 00:13

My shed is baby pink!
