Blackout blinds for a bay window that don't cost a fortune

I'm a sleep deprived mum of a 6m old. I treasure every minute of my sleep and god knows I don’t get much. My bedroom is a nightmare at the moment. I just cannot stand how light it is. I have just got some blackout curtains from Next and they are pointless. Guess I need proper blinds. But looked online and got lost. They seem to cost a fortune. Right?

Where did you get yours? I have a bay window and multiple window sections that need to be covered. Please tell me where to get them as I cannot face all the research 😞

If you want something cheapish that works brilliantly, this is fantastic.

It's blackout material with velcro stickers that you can stick to your window frame. It does mean you have to pull the blackout material off during the day and fold it away somewhere, and put it back up at night, but only takes a minute and it works so well.

You can cut it to size and can always buy additional velcro tape if needed. The tape is white to match your frame so not very noticeable. You could also have use large piece that covers the whole of the lower and upper windows if you wanted rather than cutting bits for each individual window, or you can use more than one piece if needed given the size of the window.

You might be able to find similar kits/material cheaper, but I know that this works.

We actually have proper blackout blinds but find they still let in a lot of light around the side so have had to use this in addition to them. It works much better because the material is right up against the window.

It depends if you want light during the day ?
You can buy a black sheet of fabric that sticks with water to the actual glass of your window. But this means it has to stay there so you won't get any light ever. You can buy a travel black out blind that has the suction cups to attach to the window, mine goes over the handles no bother. Or you can get roller black out blinds from dunelm, they're great alongside blackout curtains x

This looks great!

I used this in my DS room because it fit to the glass and not the frame, I had weird handles too x

What about those pleated ones? The frame fits to each window pane so possibly pricey if you have several panes. It’s the most effective though as you can’t get gaps. Depends if you want a long or short term solution.

Oh I was going to say Easyblackout too. Have them in the DDs’ rooms and they are great. And the fabric can be folded up and stored away for the months when you don’t need blackouts. The velcro is still there but not too obvious especially if you have curtains over the top.

Top tip, buy Command strips instead of their velcro, it’s stronger.

Actually they sell these clever magnet wire loops, hard to explain but basically if you don’t want to take the fabric off every day, you can roll it up at the bottom and use the magnet loop to hold it rolled up. So you get some light without removing the whole blind.
