Tassimo, Nespresso, dolce gusto?

So my mum is 89 in a few weeks. She has poor mobility and some arthritis in her hands.

She loves coffee and I thought my sister and I could get her a pod coffee machine for her birthday . I'd really like to get her one where you get milk capsules as well as coffee capsules so she can make latte/cappuccino coffees without the fuss of having to do milk separately or use a milk jug in the machine. She likes espresso too. And macchiatos.

So I'm looking for fuss free all in one type machine that doesn't need much cleaning and or fuss. And the lid close bit doesn't need too much force.

We used to have a tassimo and the coffee was ok and fuss free. Tried a Nespresso on holiday and the coffee was really nice but there was only space for teeny coffee cups and no milk pods.

Does anyone have any recommendations please?

yes agree tassimo is very easy, both to use and to periodically descale, as long as she can get the water container out. I'd go to a John Lewis and get her to try a few with her arthritis, see which is the easiest to use.

Yes, that's a very good idea thanks!

We have a Tassimo and like it a lot. My favourite is the Americano with the creamer. The pods have bar codes on which the machine reads and adjusts itself for each type of coffee. The water container is a bit annoying being at the back, but we bought a turntable off Amazon and spin it round now so it’s really easy. It will need descaling every few months dependant on use. It’s much better than the Dolce Gusto we used to have years ago.

Nespresso Vertuo has a platform you sit the cup on but you can put it in at different heights to fit different cup sizes. Perhaos tge place had set it up for their cups?
So dont write it off until you do abit of research in case that’s the one you like. It doesn’t do milk pods though

Great I'll take these things on board. Thanks @RoseLavenderBlue and @RentalWoesNotFun

I think Tassimo coffee is bloody awful! Dolce Gusto is somewhat better and Nespresso is the best of the 3. However, Nespresso requires milk to be steamed separately to the pods (although you can buy Nespresso machines with an integrated milk frother which is easy to use).

Hi
Recently bought a L'or one that uses nepresso pods and has a milk frother built onto the side next to it. Its amazing so much cheaper than the nepresso machines and the milk frother has a line inside that you fill your milk upto and its the perfect amount for 1 x latte/macchiato. Ive had tassimo and delonghi and nepresso ones but the l'or beats all of them hands down

Tassimo great but you do have to clean the bit that read the bar codes mostly every time.

I had a Tassimo but wasn't keen on the coffee so I've swapped to a Dolce Gusto which I love.
Pods are not expensive, box of 30 in Morrisons £6.50.
If you buy flat white coffee pods you have one pod, you don't have the 2nd pod for milk and it's delicious.
They do hot chocolate pods too 🤤
It's easy to use and clean.
Every so often it needs descaling, the on/off button flashes orange.
I use just a regular descaling liquid and flow a very short YouTube video, it's easy.
I've just bought DD a Dolce Gusto Piccolo which is smaller than than the original size, that might be easier for your DM as the water holder is smaller.

I’ve got a Tassimo

I don’t use it as have another machine that doesn’t use pods

its fine but limited in pods

I would get the nesspresso

reason being the coffee is as good but you can get many more pods- Aldi make there own and so do Sainsbury, Starbucks sell in Sainsbury

nesspreso do another machine with bigger pods but they aren’t as wide spread either - get the original nesspresso imo

SmotheringMonday · 06/06/2025 22:17

My 85 year old mum can do the Tassimo. She finds the ones with smaller pods much too fiddly.

We use Kenco Americano Grande pods 99 percent of the time so I don't know much about pods with milk included

Spinachpastapicker · 06/06/2025 22:29

Nespresso is definitely the best for the actual coffee taste.
They don’t have milk pods but the frothers are quite easy to use.
