Be honest, how late do you let your dogs bark outside?

Neighbours two houses up - we’ve had 10pm, 11pm, midnight and 2am on successive nights. Middle aged man lives with his adult daughter - she seems to find it hilarious to hang out late outside while the dogs bark.

I’d go round to speak to them but frankly the dogs leap at you when they open the door so I’d rather not.

Such a shame cause everyone else on the street is considerate (others have dogs). There’s always one household. Keep hoping he’ll kick her out.

Terriers here too and they do not get the luxury of barking as they are immediately told off. No dog needs to be barking for no actual reason although they will if allowed. I have just sent mine out to have a last wee and the minute one makes one woof thats it, curtains. No need for that noise.

Neighbours with bigger dogs have differing opinions.

My dog is never allowed to bark outside. If she does bark she’s called straight back in. That’s what everyone should do.

My DH spoke to a neighbour about their dog barking every morning at 7am. He was told by the angry owner that the dog has to let off steam.

In Germany dogs are not allowed to bark on a Sunday. Why can't we have a similar law here?

Clever dogs who know the days of the week. 😂

Our ddog was a warning dog so barking was in her description.
We never left her out on her own and she was brought in if she started barking at night.
In the day I would let her bark at squirrels for a minute as they ran across the fence.

My dog rarely barks. Only is she gets a fright. Maybe 4 or 5 times since we got her age 8 weeks. She’s now 4. Working black Lab.

Yellow (English) lab never barks either. Red American is a barky twat, but is accompanied after 9pm & knows better than to bark, even if the squirrels are still 'playing out'.

in the daytime he gets brought straight in! But he STILL hasn't learnt to ignore the taunting squirrels!! Not even when the yellow one gives him the 'FFS really' look

This is one of many reasons why dogs should be banned. Their incessant barking is enough to drive people insane.

🙄🙄🙄

😂😂good luck with that 😂😂😂

Definitely not at night, if they did go out for a wee and bark (incredibly rare) I would bring them straight back inside.

We live on a corner, so our dog will bark when another dog (that he doesn’t know) cat or fox goes past. We call him in, but close up doors by 9.30pm. Nearly every other house where I live has a dog, fortunately none seem to be let out late. We have more problems with foxes running loose all through the night, making an awful lot of noise. Years ago we reported our neighbours dog as it would bark constantly late at night, it did help, the dog got an ASBO and it did improve for a while, but she later rehomed the dog as it barked constantly in the home as well, it was found he had a neurological problem so went to live on a farm.

Have 2 dachshunds so they do bark if they see something they don’t like they look of, but tell them to stop/they go inside immediately regardless of time of day.

if it’s late night/early morning I would be out there like a shot getting them inside.

I don’t think a dog barking for a minute or so is much of a problem, providing it’s not at a silly time.

next doors dog is a barker and they do shout him in straight away but when it’s 5am and he’s already barked, you’re awake then and can’t get back to sleep.

when I got my dog, who’s 9 months my mother used to think I was unreasonable to get my dog in as soon as she barked. When I told her I didn’t want the neighbours complaining, she replied, well dogs bark, it’s just what they do and the council won’t do anything about a dog occasionally barking.

but I was brought up on a council estate (my mum still lives on one) which is why she thinks differently to me regarding anti social behaviour and they tend to put up with a lot more than people on private estates imo.
