BA “inviting” passengers to put hand luggage in the hold

I’ve had this suggestion before with BA, but thankfully I’ve never had to part with my hand luggage.

We fly tomorrow, and the “invitation” email has arrived again, Its got me thinking. Even if your hand luggage ends upon the hold, you’re still allowed a small cabin bag, and I can get MOST of my essentials in this. But I’m wondering that if I pack a carrier bag, or similar, into my land luggage, would I be allotwed to de-cant my belongings into this? Not ideal, but (from BA’s point of view) it gets my bag out of the cabin, and from my point of view, at least I’m not risking anything important being lost in transit? Or am I overthinking this?

Anything valuable won’t generally be covered by your travel insurance if you check it into the hold

I've had mine taken off me as people don't volunteer. You'd need to decant electronics and meds - otherwise all you need is passport/money etc

Does that mean first class?

Have I and my family been unwittingly assigned to a group we don't know about ?
Anyway ...we have small wheelie cases that are the exact measurements required by ba for cabin luggage. We are not talking the piss we have followed the exact requirement .
We were offered priority boarding as though it was some huge bonus 🤣.

No- its means BA gold

To be honest you can just remove the tag between the gate and the drop off point and take your bag on board anyway

@FreezingColdHere I'd be too chicken to do that 🤣 I'm sure the boarding staff know or altered them at the desk bags need to go onto the hold.

For a long or nighttime flight all of that plus:
Protein bar/ snack
Bottle of water
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Antiperspirant/ deodorant
Change of underwear/ socks

It's not just what you need in the air. It's stuff you don't want to have to replace when you arrive at your destination, wasting precious holiday time and spending more money than you might have anticipated.

The only time I handed over my overhead bag after wheedling by airline staff I had to wait an hour and a half at baggage claim after everyone else on my flight had picked up their luggage and gone merrily on their way before my bag appeared. Never again.

We flew with BA last week. We all had a backpack and a cabin bag. They invited us to check the cabin bags in at the airport when we were checking one case in. We gladly took them up on the offer and walked in with all our personal essentials in the rucksacks.

I have done this - it worked!
