Looking for ideas for interesting places to browse in the morning.

My children are a bit older and I usually start the day with a coffee in bed, browsing the news or other sites. I'm not much of a morning person, so it's a good way to wake up properly. Can anyone suggest interesting places to start the day (other than reading Mumsnet, of course!)?

Tuesday mornings Boots for £10 Tuesday!
I have a few word puzzles I usually do before I get up. One has a random difficulty level and if it says extreme I leave it til I am wider awake!
Word Waffle, WordLinkle

That's a good idea. I used to play some games. I must get some of those out again. Thanks, that's helpful.

I could read but I'd probably just fall asleep again.

Alphaguess is a good one. I like Scrambled Maps too.

Merlin bird app. Open the window and let it listen and identify bird song it hears.

A friend at work goes on Wikipedia tours of her local area - ie starts reading up on her home town, for example, then follows the links to the local places and reads up on the area like a tourist might. She’s found out lots of random things. It is on my to do list.

If I start that I might be in as much trouble as when I browse Etsy and find all the cute stuff. :-)

Haven't heard of the first two. Just gave them a go and they were fun. Added to my bookmarks. Thanks.

These websites were suggested on here ages ago and I enjoy them...
https://theuselessweb.com/
https://littlealchemy2.com/
Little Alchemy is a game but quite addictive.

Also Globle. A "find the country" game, great to improve geography knowledge!

The Useless Web

The Useless Web Button... just press it and find where it takes you. The perfect button for the bored, or those looking to find useless sites online!

Substack. It takes a little while to find a few writers that you like and learn your algorithm, but now it knows mine I'm getting served up some really interesting (to me) stuff.

I’m a Substack fan as well. I subscribe to a couple of writers but a lot of content is free. It’s a bit like curating your own magazine.

Is there a local news round up Substack that you can subscribe to? I take the Edinburgh Minute and there is the Sheffield Tribune ( for Sheffield obvs).
