Help - would you seek medical advice for this?

My 9yo DD is poorly - feeling cold and shivery, headache, tummy ache, sore throat and diarrhoea. She said her throat feels funny and I’ve just checked her tongue and it’s like this (looks like a strawberry tongue?). What should I do? Call 111, or wait until GP opens tomorrow? She is very tired but has eaten and drunk today and having regular calpol. This is day 2 of these symptoms (not sure how long her tongue has been like this).

Yes - looks like scarlet fever. I'd call 111 for antibiotics.

Similar to dd when she had scarlett fever. It was rife at school last year.

Thank you @DepositSaverUpper - please can I ask what symptoms your DD had? My DD has bad headache, shivering (even though her body temp seems normal), bad tummy ache and just very tired, with a sore throat

This definitely looks like scarlet fever so please see a GP. They might try to fob you off so demand they do a swap. You need specific antibiotics for it and untreated it can lead to heart problems later in life.

If you can’t get seen go a n e, it can get quite nasty. She needs antibiotics

Thank you all. I called 111 last night and was given an appointment within 2 hours. The lovely doc we saw didnt think it was scarlet fever (although he agreed she had a strawberry tongue, but no rash or fever). She has a large white plaque on her left tonsils (which is also swollen) so he said it’s tonsillitis, but the antibiotics will sort that and covers strep throat and scarlet fever as well.

Forgot to add, she’s been prescribed phenoxymethylpenicillin

Yep that’s the right one. Tonsillitis can be absolutely awful

Difflam spray is brilliant for children with sore throats as it numbs the throat so they can eat and drink. You can get it over the counter at a pharmacy.

Thank you - shes really suffering, bless her!

Agree

Scarlett Fever is a notifiable disease. Go to your doctor but tell them why you are coming for the isolation aspect.
