I’ve been with Vodafone forever, but it’s time to move on. Please explain to me how it works, because I have never changed before! I have a monthly sim only plan that expires on 28/06. I have just requested my PAC code. I would like to move to Giffgaff - is there a way to do it so I am not without my phone? Can I order a sim in advanced and then get them to put my number on it using the pac code? Help me please! (I really need my phone so my mum can get hold of me.)

If you want to keep your number then you will need to have a short period where it switches over and the phone is unavailable. It doesn't always take that long but you could be without it for a couple of hours. It's very simple to switch and you'll be kept informed when you pick a provider to go to.
I wouldn't necessarily pick Giff Gaff, I used USwitch mobile comparison and got a ridiculously cheap deal via ID Mobile, so I would suggest unless you only want Giff Gaff to have a look and see what else is out there, especially if you only want a small amount of data and own the phone already.

Thank you. A short time would be fine, I just don’t want to be without it for days. I will have a look at the price comparison.

Have a look at Tesco. I get great coverage with them, and a discount with a Clubcard

You only get a downtime of an hour or two. I looked at moneysavingexpert to get the best deal. I'm on ID and my husband is with Lebara. Both much cheaper than giffgaff and no problems at all.

Its very easy - I have just moved recently from EE (although it will always be Orange for me) to Giffgaff.

The easiest way to do it is to go the giffgaff website and request a sim and then when that arrives (usually next day) put it in your phone and enter the SIM card details and name address etc on the giffgaff website to get an account.

To switch you can either immediately enter your PAC on the giffgaff website and switch numbers or maybe wait until the day before your existing account is due to end so that your not paying twice - it needs to be a live account I think so you cant wait until the end of the time period.

Giffgaff says it can take up to a day to switcj but mine was done in less than an hour. As I say its very easy!

Put new sim in phone, do the switch. Once you have done that put old sim back in. Can take up to 38 hours. Not usually that long. When it comes up no network on your phone the switch is complete. Put new sim back in

My DF moved from Vodafone to Talkmobile. Literally a quarter of the price he paid with Vodafone and they use the same network. I asked for the PAC from Vodafone then requested the new SIM and they gave us the start date. SIM arrived within 24 hours. I swapped the SIM cards over and it all worked. Talkmobile also has an online chat and helpful call centre if you need them.

You need to check network coverage in your area you can Google this and you just have to put in your postcode.
