I nearly died three weeks ago I had a massive bleed from my femoral artery. I have cancer in my groin which didn’t help. I had a bridge by pass. I just wanted to say am I being dramatic? My leg is still swollen and I do exercise with a physio every day but the pain is off the scale oromorph isn’t touching it. Ketamine is nice but I don’t want to get addicted to it!! Can anyobe advise at all what is the king of pain killers as it’s really getting me down. And it’s affecting my movement. I’m lying with my swollen leg up when I’m resting but i have a lot of lymphatic fluids in the leg due to the cancer. I need to exercise more but the pain is stopping me.

When my husband had a hernia operation, the anaesthetist told him to take ibuprofen and paracetamol afterwards. DH said he’d never found paracetamol useful (nor had I) but the anaesthetist said used with ibuprofen, the two together were very effective. It worked for us.

Do check with a doctor before taking my unqualified advice! Individuals may have reason not to take a particular drug.

Best of luck, OP.

I remember the Diclofenac suppository being really effective after CS
i have had a lot of surgery for my disability The best ever Dihydrocodeine extended release tablets, last for 12 hours with no breakthrough pain
I have them on monthly repeat but only use if my usual pain becomes severe.

Forgot to add, I'm so sorry you're suffering
Adequate pain relief is often overlooked ime so Please do ask for stronger relief
Oramorph alone is a bit shit

I'm on morphine slow release patches 10mg. I change it once a week.
( Broken hips and pelvis).

I had ketamine and oromorph together and immediately fell asleep. It was good but not practical 😊

I had kidney surgery and on day 2ish when I wasn’t coping well with the pain the nurses offered me voltarol suppositories and they were amazing, if you have pain in that general area around the hips lower abdomen, it really worked for me. Hope you feel better soon xxx

two things worked well for me; after my hysterectomy full one I had morphine on a pump. when I needed it I pressed it to get it but it would not let you overdose of course.
second in a lot of countries abroad they tend to use suppositories which work a darn site better
i think you need to tell your team that the pain relief is not working and you need it reviewed
good luck and best wishes

I had something up the bum after abdo surgery. I think it was voltarol. Amazing stuff

caringcarer · 07/06/2025 13:11

Oramorph is by far the best.

Oxycodone. I almost screamed with the pain of my hip replacement as it wasn't straight forward. It was to correct the hip dysplasia I was born with.
But never go off it cold turkey. You will regret the day you were born. It has to be very gradual.

Something went in my bum after my last c section. That was good.

i also got a shot of morphine on day 1 which was amazing but when I asked for it again they were v vague and shifty so it was a no!!

I had morphine on a drip after the previous section and it made me itch all over, hated it.

had ketamine at the dentist once, that was lush!
