What percentages did your year 9 child get in school exams

just a nosey question so don’t answer if it’s not something you wish to share. My daughter got 64 in history which Is her favourite subject so I’m unsure what way the exam results go as this is her first result. She’s disappointed as she thought she would do better

The thing is that schools all do the year 9 exams differently (using different papers etc) so the results are not usually comparable between schools. Have they given her target grades or expected grades for her GCSEs? That should give you a clearer picture.

I'd imagine all schools work differently, and it may not to comparable. My son loves both history and geography, he hadn't done much revision due to having Shingles but managed 70% in history and 75% in geography, in his assessments.

Where did she come within her class or year group? What were the top, average and bottom scores? That would probably give you a better idea of how she is doing. What grade she is currently working at / towards?

You can't compare. It depends on the school. You need to for example know highest and lowest and mean in the year or set or whatever. Also remember that for eg maths they may not even all be set the same exam.
In your end y9 report you will hopefully get rough GCSE 'predictions'.

There’s a huge difference between 64% on a gcse history paper in year 9 than 64% on a paper aimed at year 9’s.

But ultimately what she got is irrelevant now. If she wants to improve she needs to do some self directed revision, study, reading on the subject but also she needs to know what her strengths and weaknesses are to harness her strengths and work on her weaknesses.
for example subject knowledge could be great but argument skills are poor.

I would get her to focus less on the outcome and look at what process she needs to improve.

Agree with pp.
She needs to look at:
. Did she do enough revision, was it effective. Ie did she know content.
. Did she understand what was wanted by the questions. Could she do what was wanted.
Those points can help inform future learning.
