How many clothes does a 7 year old need?

Fully toilet trained, reasonably clean and tidy eater, pretty active but not a roller in mud.

We have a huge stack of hand-me-downs many of which she'll just never wear, and I can't help feeling that she could have more space for other stuff apart from clothes...

Depends how often you do washing. If you're clearing the laundry every day she'll need fewer clothes than if you only do washing once or twice a week.

Depends on whether she's in school uniform - DS1 had enough uniforms for every day but apart from that he's not in much. I probably have enough to last him a full week of not washing clothes in the holidays (assuming he doesn't ruin his trousers every day) but he's also not fussy at all about what he wears.

Some years they don’t grow as much as others. I do remember reusing summer wear from one year to another. But then some years they grow out of everything. So it can be useful to have too much stuff then.
Basically it’s whether you’re happy to get rid or stuff but later on end up replacing it anyway. If you don’t care it doesn’t matter.

For summer time actually quite a lot! A week’s worth of hot weather stuff because I don’t want to do washing on holiday and that has to cover beachwear to nice dresses for fancy restaurants. Sporty stuff for summer camp. Jumpers and jeans because the great British summer is unpredictable. School uniform. Uniform for her other activities like netball club and brownies. I just had to get her another wardrobe as the first was overflowing!!

I have this with my DS. He's 7.5 years. We get given alot from an aunt and her friends as they are all done having children now.

I recently cut his wardrobe in half and haven't noticed the reduction. Roughly he has (outside of uniform and sports clothes)
10 short
10 trousers/jogger
20 short sleeved tshirt
20 long sleeve tshirt
5 summer pjs
5 winter pjs
20 jumpers - mix of zip up, pull over and thick and thin
about 5 football kits not for his football team

Still way over what we need and we tend to cycle the same 5-10 outfits/items so I'm debating reducing it more

Mine is a bit older, but: 5 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of trousers (he lives in shorts), half a dozen short sleeved teeshirts, a couple of long sleeved teeshirts, 2 jumpers and a couple of sets of sports stuff.
PJ'S, pants and socks - no idea!

This is very helpful - thank you. I just feel like we have boxes and boxes of clothes she never wears and it drives me nuts!
