I'm going to quit vaping

Anyone else trying/kicked the habit? Please send any words of wisdom, tips, tricks or even just a reminder that it's gross and I really need to do this!

I've been vaping for about 6 years now and I'm desperate to stop. My DC hate it and it's a bit embarrassing when out and about. It doesn't actually cost me that much (refillable vape, parts are inexpensive) so I can't go for a financial incentive but there are dozens of other reasons to stop.

There's never really been a 'good time' and now is no exception, apart from DH has packed in this week so a) he won't tempt me and b) I feel really bad making it more difficult for him!

I've bought patches and some lozenge type things and have been mindfully cutting down this week. Do I just go for it tomorrow?!

Yes it is hard to stay stopped. Actual quitting is 3-4 days of murderous rage and emotional mayhem, then it goes quiet. I feel as if my willpower has the breaking strain of a matchstick. Doesn't help that the bastard things are still sitting winking and smirking at you in every store you go in, all beautifully packaged and winsome - they aren't locked behind shutters like cigarettes and covered in pictures of shrivelled lungs and gangrenous limbs.

I keep telling myself it is like the house in Hansel and Gretel - designed to entice you with sweetness and pretty colours and then bang! You're trapped again.

Why are you surrounded by vapes @Vapeaddict ? That must be sooo hard.

Yes agreed @GameOfJones I've stopped 3 times now for varying lengths of time.. I'm always disappointed with myself when I restart but I'm doing it less and less each time and have learned not to give myself too hard a time about it- certainly doesn't serve any purpose/make me quit again any quicker! I'm hopeful I'll kick it again before long. Maybe I'll stop again Friday- busy weekend will keep me occupied and get me over the worst of it!

Ha yes to the rage @AInightingale it's less hard each time I've quit- if only I could stay quit I wouldn't have to keep testing the theory! Yeah it's weird how it seems fine to market vapes like they do when cigarettes are so under wraps in the shops.
House/family full of vapers, they're around every corner unfortunately- definitely makes it harder to resist when I can 'just have a few drags'. Then I think, I won't do that again tomorrow but bang, hooked again!

It’s been so incredibly hard and I’m only 3 weeks in. But, today was the first day I suddenly realised I haven’t thought about vaping all day: that feels like a BIG shift.

having said that, yesterday I was in the supermarket and saw the big ‘VAPES’ sign over the counter and briefly debated buying one but thankfully didn’t! The allure is way too strong though.

Im still on two pieces of gum per day and that seems to be keeping me on the straight and narrow. Although ideally I need to pack that in too at some point.

well done to everyone because it really is a tough addiction to break

I recently travelled to a country where vaping is illegal, so bought some tabs to use while I was there. (Bolt tabs. Cool mint I found most satisfying). I was fully expecting to go back to vaping once back, but after 2 weeks of using the tabs, I'm not craving the vape at all! And much easier to limit and reduce the tabs. First few days of hol, I was using near the max of 20 tabs a day. 2 weeks away + been home a week and I'm already down to 8 a day. Finding it a hell of a lot easier than any other nicotine replacement I've tried.

The tabs are like those wafer thin breath freshener mint strips that were around in early 00s. Melt on your tounge. They're actually pleasant unlike nicotine gum.

I'm also thinking, for future, if I relapse, it's much easier to just have 1 tab, then no more than it is to have just 1 puff of a vape but no more.

I found Alan Carr's book useful, although I cheated a bit by using nicotine gum. I think quitting smoking was a truly massive achievement. I wish you the very best.
