Why do people question blue badge holders?

I’ve seen comments over the years about people being challenged for not looking disabled. But they’re not easy to get - in fact they seem ridiculously challenging and dad might be dead by the time he bloody gets one. Medical records and consultant’s letter isn’t enough, he needs an interview… but they keep arranging the interview for when he’s having cancer treatment (every day so I appreciate it’s hard to schedule).

Just needed to vent.

I think it's more about people wrongly "borrowing" the blue badge of a relative to abuse the free parking, etc by using the blue badge when the person named isn't actually in the car.

Still nobody else's business.

I took my mum to a hospital appointment the other day and you had to scan the blue badge to get free parking (by some miracle we actually got a space in the hospital car park). It was on a pay on foot so once she'd had her procedure I took her back to the car and then ran to the machine to scan her badge and ran back. I was fully expecting someone to shout at me for having a blue badge.

People are so nosey. Maybe they could look at their own behaviour, like parking on pavements, or leaving rubbish all over a beach.

I would never challenge a blue badge because I know that they’d have had to provide evidence to confirm that needed

and if I suspected that someone was using one that the holder of which had passed away or wasn’t in the car, I still would t challenge. Firstly because I wouldn’t even notice!but on the off chance I did, I’d just think - “who knows 🤷‍♀️) and walk on by

I saw a warden being aggressively heckled by people when he was challenging someone displaying a blue badge. Thing is, it is abused sometimes by someone borrowing a relatives etc. and it's wrong to not allow wardens to do their jobs and do random checks if they're suspicious. There's a mentality sometimes that people using disabled badges should not be challenged or checked.

Traffic wardens are targeted to issue fines, so blue badge holders are an easy target if they do something wrong like display the badge upside down or put the wrong time on. So people do get annoyed with them.

No, wardens aren't meant to challenge blue badge holders. They should report the driver if they believe the badge is being misused (and can and do fine for things like displaying the wrong way up). They are not doctors and they do not have the right to challenge anyone.
