Wasp nest

Has anybody here ever sprayed a wasp nest themselves? It’s quite small right now but busy, tucked in behind a fence but in clear view and about 4 feet from the ground so easily accessible if I were to be brave enough to spray it myself. Got the spray earlier, 3 metre range and I can see the entrance to the nest very clearly …..

good idea or bad idea to go spray later this evening?

They don’t swarm out and attack like on the cartoons. They will dash out but will frantically dart about near the nest in the immediate aftermath, looking for the threat, before circling wider. Just hastily withdraw after initially spraying. You can return and spray again a bit later. I would wear long sleeves though and have as much of me covered as possible, just in case.

That’s exactly what I’ve been envisioning 😂 thank you! Have you done it yourself? Been checking the nest all evening waiting dor them to quiet down before I attack!

I've done a couple and it was simple. Spray, walk away. I did wear long sleeves etc just in case.

Unfortunately no, garden space is not big and they’ve set up right beside the pool. Only noticed they were there because they dive bombed me while I was taking the cover off the pool for the kids over the weekend.

Sprayed a while ago anyway and I’m still alive, I’ll check it in the morning.

I need to spray one as well, which is outdoors, I'm waiting until it's darker outside. I'm nervous about it!

scalt · 07/06/2025 21:38

I sprayed mine too: the nest was only about 10cm in diameter. Nothing untoward happened, as the spray quickly coated the whole thing in white foam. I'll see if there's any activity in the morning.

😂

it was all actually so UNexciting in the end, nest was just totally melted next morning, not a single wasp sighted since!

It’s all a bit of an anticlimax. We had one and I sent DH out in three layers of overalls and a welding helmet. He covered it in the foam whilst I looked on from a closed window.
next morning it had disappeared.

scalt · 10/06/2025 21:42

Only part of my nest disappeared, and yes, it felt anticlimactic: not that many wasps inside, I’ve seen much bigger ones. But now I know the spray is effective.

Jellybean23 · 10/06/2025 22:02

I've sprayed a couple of nests. I waited until evening, sprayed generously , then ran for it even though no wasps came after me! Very effective, I would not hesitate to tackle another nest.

My ex once poured a can of petrol on a wasps’ nest - quite a big one. It was an instant success.

bowchicawowwow · 10/06/2025 22:11

I’ve poured ovenpride on a wasp nest before and run quickly away. It worked
