Parcel left on front doorstep and now it’s gone

Can anyone help please. Royal Mail delivered a parcel today, I got an email to say it’s been delivered and they posted a picture of it near my front door. I have returned home from work and it’s not here. I bought it with klarna so haven’t paid for it yet, but obviouslt I don’t want to pay for the item when I haven’t received it. Does anyone know what I do?? Who do I contact? And would they even believe me, because surely anyone can say they haven’t received a parcel 😫

Contact royal mail.

I think unless it was supposed to be signed for, or you stipulated a safe place, which was ignored, I am not sure you have any recourse.

one time Royal Mail posted a photo of my neighbours item outside of her front door, but then took it back to the depot for safe keeping. lucky I had the ring doorbell as she understandably thought it'd been stolen.

i'd echo the above and check with your neighbours and then royal mail x

This happened to me. The company claimed from Royal Mail and resent it. I had to fill in an online form for Royal Mail that the sending company emailed me.

Have a look around/ask neighbours. My postman takes a photo on the doorstep, then leaves it somewhere safer 🤷🏻‍♀️ And always asks the neighbour “do you want me to leave a card?”. He’s got a ridiculously large round, so I don’t blame him for trying to save a few minutes, but does mean tracking parcels down was a bit of an effort (I now know his go to places!)

Failing that, your contract is with the store you bought from, so contact them.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 02/06/2025 17:35

Did you give them explicit permission to leave it on your doorstep? If not, then you need to contact the seller of the item/s and they need to deal with it.

Don’t let them fob you off by asking you to contact Royal Mail etc, or saying it’s nothing to do with them. If you haven’t allowed them to deliver to your step then they haven’t fulfilled their contract with you and it’s their responsibility to put it right.

If she hasn’t explicitly given them permission to leave it in a safe place or on the doorstep then she definitely has recourse.

Edited to add..obviously a quick check with the postie or neighbours is ok but when I said not to get involved with RM, I meant in terms of the company expecting you to do what they should do and chasing it up in depth.

hexsnidgett · 02/06/2025 17:42

Contact the company you bought it from. I had this and they sent me another item. It was M&S, but I don't think it matters.
I rang them and said what happened and they could see from the photo that the parcel hadn't been safely delivered.
Bit of a pain, but I didn't have to pay.

legoplaybook · 02/06/2025 17:46

Contact the company you bought it from and complain it hasn't been delivered.

Leaving something on a doorstep definitely isn't delivery.

MissMoneyFairy · 02/06/2025 17:46

They should have rung the doorbell and put a card through to say where it's being taken unless you specified leave in the doorstep. Ask if any neighbours have anything on ring.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 02/06/2025 17:59

Contact the company.
In future ensure there is a safe place to leave the parcel, can the postie get in the back garden, is there a parcel box, specify which neighbour it is to go to.
