Is a Dyson hairdryer worth it?

If you have a Dyson Hairdryer do you think it was worth buying?
Have you used a dyson hairdryer but have found something better that you can recommend?

I have wanted one for a long time and can now afford to buy one, I am just worried that it will be no better than my babyliss 20 year old hairdryer.

So I had a thing last year and my friend offered to do my hair with her one. It was a perfect blow-dry that lasted three days. On foot of that I bought one (I have quite curly/fuzz prone hair). I cannot get it to last three days (1 max). She was just really good at it. Having said that, I would buy it again. It's better than the bubyliss big curl and takes less elbow grease than a hairdryer.

Ps it was the airwrap I bought.

It’s much, much quicker than any hairdryer I’ve ever owned. Does it give me a salon blow dry with no effort? No, but if I make the effort to section and dry my hair properly, it’s the closest I’ve come. Most of the time I’m too lazy and I just blast my head 🤦‍♀️ But when I do that it dries my very fine but plentiful long hair in about 4 minutes.
But them I also rate the Revlon One Step. I will often blast my hair with the Dyson and finish with the revlon.

They are BRILLIANT. My DH bought me one as a treat when my hair grew back after chemo (and grew back weird) - I can blow dry, not need any other heat styling tool and have shiny hair for a couple of days it’s magic!

IDontDrinkTea · 01/06/2025 22:30

I have one. Other than being quieter than other hairdryers, I don’t think there’s any difference

I've had mine about 5 years and love it. I find even without bothering to style, my hair looks much better. It gets used a lot (my dc also use it) and still going strong, so I'd say it was a great investment.

I love my Dyson airwrap. I am by no means a hairdryer expert, but it was a gift and I am so happy with it. It just makes my hair look so much better than my old hair dryer did.

Thank you.

I love my Dyson supersonic. I’m on my second one now. My first stopped working just short of 2 years and they sent me a brand new one.

Endiof · 02/06/2025 08:07

Yes, I got mine for about half price from Dyson Refurbished on eBay one Black Friday, it was brand new in the shrink wrap. I have curly hair and it is very good for that.

Clearingaspace · 02/06/2025 08:12

I have fine frizzy hair and useless at blow drying, it didn’t work magic but is slightly better than my previous hair dryer (20 year old professional one). Had more luck with airstrait but that’s probably not worth the price and is hard to get to the roots - I also would say it prob damages hair despite claims not to.

Schoolsec · 02/06/2025 22:07

Mine is fab. I have the air wrap and use it with the smoothing brush to dry my shortish bobbed hair. Smooth and frizz free finish . Buy off QVC and you can send it back even if you have used it 😊

I've had one five years, still going strong. I love mine, would definitely recommend

okydokethen · 02/06/2025 22:11

Yes definitely worth it - far quicker, smoother and easier. Air wrap is great too.

notatinydancer · 02/06/2025 22:32

I have an Airwrap. I love it.

Solaire18381 · 02/06/2025 22:34

My Dyson is a few years old how and after a few minutes overheats (even when not on a high setting) and cuts out, have to wait a few minutes before turning back on.

I like how the motor isn't at the back and therefore hair doesn't get tangled in (and I can safely let DC use it). I'm looking for a new brand.

Does anyone know of hairdryers that are NOT Dyson, but similar, i.e that don't have a motor at the rear?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 02/06/2025 22:39

I have a Dyson hair dryer and it's wonderful. Airwrap is expensive though so thinking of trying the airbrush (cheap but apparently excellent version doing the rounds on tik tok so I hear) - anyone tried that and if so how to they compare?

sweeatpea1989 · 02/06/2025 22:41

Mine has the same issue @Solaire18381do you think there’s any grounds for a return? Receipt and box is long gone.

Solaire18381 · 02/06/2025 22:55

@sweeatpea1989 looking at the website, 2 year guarantee.

Mine is about 5 years, sadly.

IvanaTinkles · 02/06/2025 23:14

I absolutely love my Dyson hairdryer. I have long thick hair & it dries it in half the time of any other hairdryer. I got mine when they first came out so it’s about 8 or 9 years old now, and still going strong - no other hairdryer I’ve owned has ever lasted more than 2 years.

Also, their customer service is fantastic - I dropped one of the nozzles and stepped on it so it snapped - I called them to ask how I could buy just a nozzle, and they sent me a replacement one free of charge, even though it was my fault in breaking it!

Wildywondrous · 02/06/2025 23:19

I've got the airwrap and it's OK, not worth the money and I won't replace it when it breaks.

I quite like the tools but I it doesn't really do anything that a normal hairdryer and straightener doesn't, only benefit is that it's cooler so less likely to damage your hair.
