DH said not to call the surgery at 8.3o as it won't be seen as an emergency?

I just noticed it tonight on her head, hair a bit greasy and sperate and noticed small brown crusty looking thing with red in the middle

Does anyone know what we can expect?

Put a hot compress on it. Is it a boil?

ParmaVioletts · 01/06/2025 20:28

@CrickityCrickets no it doesn't look like a boil for want of a better word it looks crusty and two tone not even.

Boils and spots look more like stretched skin

It's not an emergency but do ring to get it looked at, though I doubt it's anything sinister. I used to get a patch like that and was just because I have always had a little it bump on my scalp that I sometimes scratched accidentally while combing and got a scab.

Do you have health anxiety? What do you mean by ‘suspicious?’

as to what you can expect … it’ll heal up in time

ParmaVioletts · 01/06/2025 20:31

@BatFaceChops skin cancer melanoma, crusty, non spot light

When I said what to expect I meant will a doc look?
I know when my husband had a suspicion years ago there's something about Doc's not checking anymore?

If it needs investigating what' can I expect?

Two weeks referral? Quicker because nature of it??

Sounds like a spot. See what happens to it over the next week and if its still there or not clearing or changed in some way, book in an appointment.

You're running away with yourself here a bit arent you?

ParmaVioletts · 01/06/2025 20:33

@soupyspoon unfortunately it doesn't look spot like at all best hope is that she has scratched it but again it doesn't look really like a scab but that's the closest description.

I think you should wait 7-10 and look at it then. It is likely to have healed and gone away. If not, GP appointment for a clinical opinion. DD got crusty sores on her head around exam time. They were a form of dermatitis that was stress related. A dermatologist prescribed a lotion and a supplement. She no longer gets them.

I expect another explanation is that she's picked a spot on her head.

wobblybrain · 01/06/2025 20:40

Can you upload a picture?

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 01/06/2025 20:41

It probably is nothing to worry about, but I would call the GP first thing. They may suggest sending over a photograph for a doctor to look at and consider whether to see the patient in person.

Hazlenuts2016 · 01/06/2025 20:41

My son had a large cyst on his scalp. It looked suspicious to me but the GP was very relaxed about it. I went for a 2nd opinion and it was never biopsied or anything. It went down after a few mths. Could it be a cyst?

ShiningStar3 · 01/06/2025 20:42

It sounds like you have some health anxiety, in which case I do feel for you. But if you're worrying like this you must be making your daughter nervous, too. I do hope you haven't mentioned melanoma to her.

ParmaVioletts · 01/06/2025 20:44

@RosesAndHellebores that could be something like that

Unfortunately it's not like any spot I've ever seen and I've seen some including carbolic cysts

What in concerned about is that just because I've only seen it today doesn't mean it's not been there for a while.

It could have been there for ages... I only saw it by accident because of where I was sitting... and her hair being a little greasy

ParmaVioletts · 01/06/2025 20:45

@ShiningStar3 I've not mentioned a singleton thing to her at all 😐

RosesAndHellebores · 01/06/2025 20:47

I mean this kindly @ParmaVioletts but I think you may need a GP appointment to get some help for your anxiety.

Muggytoday · 01/06/2025 20:48

Does she pick her head or get dandruff? My dc same age does that. I wouldn’t worry at this stage op. Just see what happens over the next few days.

teaandtoastxox · 01/06/2025 20:48

Does she suffer from itchy scalp? I do and I often end up with small scabs on my scalp from scratching too hard!

Legomum1 · 01/06/2025 20:48

I get patches on my scalp like this sometimes, I think it is a form of dermatitis. They also make my hair oily. I would probably give it a week to see if it clears up and tell her not to pick it.

MiracleCures · 01/06/2025 20:49

A good plan getting it checked but definitely do not let yourself stay in this panic mode.
There are all sorts of reasons for people to have spots and bumps on their head

MiracleCures · 01/06/2025 20:51

Do an e- consult and send a picture .
I had some funny changes on my hand and was worried (I was on heavy immune suppression so higher risk). I did an e-consult and the doctor was able to reassure me quite swiftly

LadyQuackBeth · 01/06/2025 20:51

You could probably pop into a pharnacy to have it looked at there.
