Bizzyre · 01/06/2025 18:21

My daughter has an eating disorder and atm the greggs pizza is her main focus.

I was wondering if the pizzas come in frozen and if i might be allowed to purchase them uncooked?

I've been hoping they will show up in the frozen Iceland range but no luck so far.

@WhereAreMyKids

Who put 20p in the dick head?

Perfect!

I love it. I'm stealing that one 😂

The OP did not ask for your very unhelpful judgement. You clearly have no idea what coping with an extreme ED is like.

WTF!

MoominMai · 01/06/2025 19:10

@Bizzyre yes you can definitely freeze and defrost cooked pizza. However, to avoid investing too much monetarily upfront I’d only buy one to test first just in case there’s any alteration in texture upon defrosting and your child is able to detect it and not like it.

JoyousGuide · 01/06/2025 19:10

Have a google and see if there is a Greggs outlet near you ( not the usual Greggs shop) they sell off anything not sold in the surrounding shops and may be a bit more open to you plea. At the very least you may be able to snag some a bit cheaper than in the main Greggs. If you can make a friend of the staff there you never know where that might lead you. ARFID is really hard especially when the child picks a really particular food and that obsession can last for years. You are doing a great job OP one which many people will not understand.

Does anyone know if it is possible to freeze the cooked pizzas once cooled please?

Yes we do this for my DS who also has ARFID.

We also sometimes keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days just for easy access.

Yes you are right!! Far better let the poor child starve! That will learn them

if you don’t understand something then don’t offer your “advice”

I can imagine they'd be ok to freeze and reheat. I'm assuming it's the plain cheese and tomato? If that's the case I'm sure it'll be fine.

Me too! 😆

Growsomeballswoman · 01/06/2025 19:24

You are amazing for doing what you do for your child. F@ck anyone who says otherwise. My DS went through the same and his consultant said get the calories in him that’s the only priority, it doesn’t matter where they come from. Some people have no idea x

AutumnLover1989 · 01/06/2025 19:25

CatAsstrophe · 01/06/2025 19:00

No, it really is not indulging.

I wish my parents had 'indulged' me, instead of holding me down, force feeding me and punching me when I gagged or vomited from having food pushed into my mouth and down my throat.

Also, ARFID is not a mental health condition. I'm autistic, not mentally ill.

Omg I'm so sorry. That's awful 😞

DizzyCow63 · 01/06/2025 19:27

Also OP, download the Greggs app, for every ten pizza’s you buy you get one free, I imagine you would rack up freebies quite quickly.

I have one son with arfid too so completely understand, ignore the token dickhead on this thread!

woodlandcalm · 01/06/2025 19:27

Why not reach out directly to Gregg's OP, even if they cannot sell directly to you in store they might be able to suggest something.

Go on, tell us how you treat ARFID?

People can have ARFID for so many different reasons. It could be because of sensory processing issues, it could be due to trauma such as choking on something, it could be due to low interest in eating, and it could be due to overlapping comorbidities like neurodivergence.

It is not indulgence to feed your child what they will eat. It's preventing neglect.

You don't fix ARFID by refusing to feed them what they will eat. That creates trauma. That will create further avoidance.

If you haven't got a clue about something then before you think about talking on the matter, shut up.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/06/2025 19:31

I'm sure everyone will be happy to hear that Andthedoor has now been banned.
Good luck OP

Bizzyre · 01/06/2025 19:35

I didn't mean for this to become a thread about ARFID but I just want to say thankyou to everyone taking the time to post something supportive. It seems like a lot more people understand ARFID than I thought, I just wish the people who didn't would stick around, read and learn rather than judge.

My favourite is. Well it wouldn’t happen in my house! Yep wanna bet

bedtimestories · 01/06/2025 19:39

As a fellow ARFID and autistic mum I feel your pain. Sending big hugs she moves onto something more readily available soon 🤗

My daughter is my 3rd child and everyone made fun of me when they were small as I refused to use any ready made baby food for any of them. They all had home made meals everyday. Plenty of fruit, veg and salad. If I had a choice it would still be that way, but ARFID isn't something anyone can control, especially the person who suffers from it.

To suggest its a choice is just soul destroying to read. In the last few months my daughter has missed out on so many events, partys and end of school events because they revolve around food. She hasn't eaten a meal in school in 5 years.
Why would she chose that if she truely had a choice? It makes her sad everyday. She gets zero joy from food and only eats the same thing everyday because that is what she can TOLERATE in the moment. Not because she wants junk food. Its that or literally nothing. And many days it is nothing, and i spend the day offering things she may want and she just can't eat. So if she wants a greggs pizza, damn right I'm going to go get her one because it might be the only thing she eats that day!

is it worth emailing their head office ? might be able to support you in getting the core ingredients or allow you to have access before cooking.

would she ever consider making her own pizza with a flat bread?

i would just freeze slices and when defrosted give a quick blast in air fryer.

NewStartofSomething · 01/06/2025 19:56

I think I’ve checked all of the posts, I’m sure you can freeze them, and eat them again, also check out Iceland, I think they have a Greggs range of pasties, they may do pizzas too, if it’s a large branch

Blueberrypot · 01/06/2025 20:06

Could you phone the customer helpline and ask?
Shame the excel(sp) in Herons don’t sell Greggs pizza.

Ds was my first, upon weaning he was given the best of the best as any PFB should. I've always cooked from scratch, a mix of meals from dh and my countries plus the UK meals. When he first started weaning I ordered meat from a farm shop 200 miles away as I loved their wellness ethos with their animals plus their abattoir was on site so no travel for the animals (I'm veggie and was super PFB 😂).

His ARFID started at 8 months when he became ill. He dropped all but 2 meals. With this came the sensory difficulties around foods, gagging and vomiting on smells and sight of some foods. We walked a fine line for years, many times unable to access his safe foods and watched as he lost weight, became lethargic and lost himself. We accessed every service we could but there was nothing they could offer, all was put down to his ASD diagnosis and OCD tendencies. For years he lived on packet food and very specifically made, cut and presented food. I'm talking lightly toasted bread with cheese spread, crusts off, cut into 12 pieces on a particular plate arranged in a circle 😅

I'm so thankful in the last year HE made it known he had interest in other food and was ready to try it. He will now eat plain pasta, McDonald's (this is a big one as we can feed him outside of the house now), chicken in the air fryer and fish fingers. It's a long slog and with every illness I'm terrified we'll go back to starvation as he won't be able to cope with food again. But for now I'm so happy to make pasta every night.

So, I get it and you don't need to defend yourself or your DD against ignorance. All food is GOOD FOOD. What did we say in the early days about breast v formula. FED IS BEST.
