Dog food in The Netherlands

Travelling to The Netherlands, through France, with our Labrador next week. All vaccines and paperwork sorted but I’ve realised we can’t take his food with us because of sodding Brexit.

Does anyone know a good brand we could buy for him while we’re there? He usually eats Wainwright’s grain-free trays of wet food.

Butternut Box are advertising like mad here at the moment. Otherwise Google "ruwe hondenvoer". Your main issue will be delivery. Garden centres (e.g. Intratuin) often have frozen dog food which might be ok

Thank you! He’s had Butternut Box before but we’re only there for five days so really want something I can buy in a shop.

I must admit I’m not really up to date with the rules or why they’re in place, I can’t imagine anyone searching your car for dog food?

Edit - just looked it up and it seems you can bring food from EU to UK, but not the other way around. Can’t find anything on exactly why other than brexit rules. Seems like madness! Hope someone can suggest a good alternative for you.

Most pet food is made by multinationals so you are sure to find all the main brands even if the names are different. Go by the colours and pictures.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 02/06/2025 10:29

This is not the legally correct answer, but the chances of your car actually being searched are very low. I regularly drive through the tunnel with sausages and god knows what else in the car.

I laughed when I saw he's a Labrador. If there is food available, he will find it!

tizwozliz · 02/06/2025 10:34

Are you hoping to be able to pick something up in the supermarket or can you make a trip to a pet shop?

Well, I was just on the Eurostar - train from Amsterdam to London St. Pancras - and there was a list of forbidden to take foods to UK including cheese and sandwiches.

Grin Especially if it’s something he’s not supposed to have!

I don’t mind going to a pet shop. We’re going in the car so easy to get about.

Maxizoo in France and Petsplace in NL both sell Edgard Cooper wet food in tins if you want something you could test over here first.

bloodredfeaturewall · 02/06/2025 10:58

every supermarket sells the standard big brands and bigger ones also fresh in the chiller & freezer section. no idea about brands though.

Thank you everyone, some really helpful info.
