Reaching behind back to apply sunscreen

proximalhumerous · 31/05/2025 22:35

I'm going on holiday soon (solo) and I've just realised that, owing to an injury, I'm possibly not going to be able to apply sunscreen on one half of my back.

Does anyone have any experience of this situation, or any bright ideas?

If you're looking for all and any suggestions then...

You could get one of those washing up brush with the foam applicator attached and instead of pouring Fairy on the sponge, pour the suncream. That'll give you better reach.

I tore a rotator cuff before a holiday before. I fixed a fake tan mit to a back scratcher, could you try this?

Wear a shirt or stay under a parasol.

Wear a t-shirt. You should cover up as much as possible to protect your skin anyway.

Haha! Certainly lateral thinking. I'm not sure that would work, as the viscosity of suncream would be different to washing up liquid. Could give it a go...

Thanks, that could work.

Rash vest. So much easier than sun cream faffing.

Obviously that's an option. I usually wear factor 30 and don't overdo sun exposure.

Honestly, some of these suggestions are hilarious!

Aerosol suncream could work too.

I read this as Anusol cream and sat staring blankly at my screen for far too long! 🙈

Aerosol sunscreen, t shirts, shade a wing and a prayer

This is something I’ve been confused about too. I’m planning my first solo holiday which will involve a pool, sun, some good books and a bit of sightseeing. I’ve got a device that I use to tan my back - long rectangle with loops on each end, and I always miss bits in the middle of my back. Don’t want to get sunburn but I will be sunbathing like a rotisserie chicken.
Can you aim the aerosol well enough so you don’t miss any bits?
