How bad is -4 in both eyes?

I know I need glasses. But don’t think it’s THAT bad. I can see okay without, just no loads of detail

Really random post. Off the back of a friend who works at Specsavers and gasped when I told her but was walking around without my specs (they were in my car)

How old are you OP? I've been wearing contact lenses for years and my prescription was the same as yours for a long time. I wouldn't have not worn my lenses at that level of shortsightedness as it was so limited - couldn't read signs until I was right up them, no detail visible as apart from close up things were blurred, etc. My shortsightedness is worse now and I have some of the effects of ageing kicking in too. I wear intermediate glasses for computer work, but don't need anything if I'm on my phone. The same contact lenses work for everything though at the moment.

My thoughts are that you should have the glasses checked that they are the correct prescription, especially if you bought them online. Are you someone who stays in a small area you're familiar with day to day? There's no way I could see enough to function safely for example travelling by train to a large town or city and getting around without my glasses at your prescription!
