Can I ask (1) at what age they started taking the tube alone for social purposes, daytime and evening (2) how late you let them walk home alone ages 13/14 (boys and girls). You can probably guess why I’m asking. (Full disclosure we don’t live in the UK, but you are our closest equivalent). Thanks!

DD13, allowed on the tube for social purposes whe. she wants since Y7 but stays local (has been travelling across London on tube for school with changes alone since the start of Y7 so at 11). I don’t like her out after dark alone, so in winter it’s not after 5 on a weekend, in summer I’d pick her up after 6.30 depending on where she is. This is on a weekend, school days she comes home alone about 5.30. We are in zone 3 and a nice area but I still track her and like to know where she is. She’s onboard with this so far…

Year 7 usually for secondary purposes and after school bits.

home by dark until 14/15 unless at a class etc or close by

So far, same as us. Home by dark (which we insist on) is the stickler, even though it doesn’t get dark until around 8.30pm where we are (summer, around 5.30 in the winter).

I always said their curfew on weekends was the year they were in so yr 7= 7pm, yr8= 8pm and so on.

Tube at 11, when they started secondary. Bus and walking locally to friends before that eg home from school (10 mins) age 9.

I let them walk home after dark from 11 as it’s dark by the time they get home from
school in winter. More generally, I’d make a judgement and probably pick up my 13yo if it was later than 8.30, and after about 7.00 she might well call me and I’d talk to her all the way from the station (5 mins).

I live in a safe area, busy with commuters until fairly late.
